A Program in English Language Civics Education for Latino Immigrants

Nuevos Ciudadanos is a curriculum program in English Language Civics Education (EL Civics) for Mexican and other Latin American adult learners developed by Academia América de San Antonio. The Program is designed to meet the needs of Latino immigrants residing in San Antonio, Texas, permanent legal residents who want to become

American citizens, acquire English literacy, and seek full integration in American society. This is a program that can be replicated in other communities with significant concentrations of these populations. The Nuevos Ciudadanos Program consists of four curriculum components. History and Preparation for the Citizenship examination form the core of the EL Civics Education Program. Consumer Financial Education is the fourth curriculum component. Its goal is to enhance the students’ capacity for economic self-reliance and help them avoid falling prey to predator lenders and unscrupulous business practices.

Instructor Arturo was able to stage a mock interview as practice for Jovita but also give everyone else a view of what their process might look like. 🇺🇸 She did great! she was so calms and collected, she is ready ! 😎
