(1)

Founded in 1990 by women garment workers, and led by Latinx staff today, Fuerza Unida is a nonprofit organization located on San Antonio's Southside. For 33 years, we have served our community via Threads of Justice (our sewing collective), our monthly food pantry, and so much more. We have a community garden, a youth program, monthly membership meetings, and other programming that all drive and inform our work to achieve economic, environmental and social justice.

Our Story

Fuerza Unida is an organization led by Mexican-American women founded in 1990 by over 600 mostly women garment workers, displaced after Levi’s Strauss left the city of San Antonio to Costa Rica. For 24 years, we have served our community via El Hilo de la Justicia, our sewing collective and by providing a monthly food pantry. We host a community garden, an annual Youth Leadership Program, and we hold monthly membership meetings, Loteria Mexicana games and other programming that drive and inform our work to achieve economic, environmental and social justice.
