The foundation is funding Kaitlin Saenz with a grant of $3,336.95 for her 2026 summer semester at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi’s nursing school, where she is doing exceedingly well. She has held positions in pain management and urgent care and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Additionally, Kaitlin served as the primary caregiver for her grandparents, selflessly supporting them during their battles with cancer and while in hospice.

Courtney Pierce received a $1,333 grant from the foundation to obtain a Synergetic Play Therapy certification, which will allow her to work with children in need of healing. Courtney is currently a Master of Social Work graduate supervisee, working to gain the necessary hours for independent licensure. Furthermore, Courtney has more extensive experience in the healing arts through the practice of yoga. She has yoga teacher training and as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) has taught trauma-informed, Vinyasa, and Power Yoga classes. Courtney is also certified in trauma-informed yoga and has worked to provide yoga to men of color, many of whom are survivors of violence, and do not otherwise have access to yoga.

After focusing on retail management in his career and in higher education, James Chavarria is following his lifelong aspiration to become a registered nurse to serve those in need of healing. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and has completed his first semester. The foundation has awarded him $2,000 for his fall semester at A&M, where he will learn from his coursework: Caring of Parents/Newborns, Professional Nursing Issues, and Nursing Care of Adults. While in his first semester, James gained valued experience from his clinicals, giving him the opportunity to perform assessments, collect vital signs, and (with supervision) administer medication – to name a few. James plans on applying for a nurse externship to expand his knowledge in a hospital setting.
