Success in third grade starts long before a child enters a classroom.

A new study released by Partner Early Matters San Antonio, in collaboration with community partners including UP Partnership and School District East Central ISD, found that students who enter kindergarten meeting developmental benchmarks are significantly more likely to be proficient in reading and math by third grade.

The findings reinforce what many educators and families already know: investing in early childhood matters. From birth through kindergarten, early learning experiences help lay the foundation for academic success, school engagement, and long-term opportunity.

Supporting kindergarten readiness is a key Future Ready Bexar County Access strategy because when young people start strong, they are better positioned to thrive throughout their educational journey.

Congratulations to Partner Majestic Empire Foundation on a successful 18th Annual Joci Awards! 🎭✨

For more than 15 years, the Joci Awards have celebrated the talent, dedication, and creativity of high school students across San Antonio and South Texas, using scholarships and mentorship to advance Future Ready Bexar County’s Voice focus area by fostering developmental relationships that help young people build confidence, leadership, resilience, and the skills to pursue their dreams.

Since its founding, the Joci Awards have awarded more than $2.3 million in scholarships, opening doors to opportunity for students across the region.

Thank you to the Majestic Empire Foundation for inviting UP Partnership staff to this year’s showcase. It was truly inspiring to witness the incredible talent and potential of so many young people.

Centered on the theme of Voice, the event brought Future Ready Bexar County’s Voice focus area to life by bringing young people and families together for a day of creativity, fun, and connection that celebrated the ideas, experiences, and perspectives young people bring to our community.

Expanding access to dual credit starts with expanding the number of educators qualified to teach college-level courses.

A partnership led by Anchor Partner Alamo Colleges District and Partner St. Mary's University, alongside area school districts including Partners Northside ISD and East Central ISD, is helping more teachers earn the credentials needed to teach dual credit courses.

The first 17 teachers have now completed the tuition-free program, and by year three, the initiative is expected to expand access to dual credit for at least 1,750 students across the San Antonio region.

By investing in teachers, this partnership is advancing Future Ready Bexar County’s Access focus area by expanding best practices in college access and helping more young people earn college credit in high school, opening new pathways to postsecondary success.

Congratulations to Partner San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) on celebrating 10 years of inspiring curiosity, creativity, and innovation in young people across San Antonio! 🎉

For the past decade, SAMSAT has introduced students to hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math, helping them build skills and explore future pathways in STEM.

As a Future Ready Partner, SAMSAT is helping young people discover what’s possible and preparing them for success in school, career, and beyond.

This work supports Future Ready Bexar County’s Access focus area by expanding opportunities that prepare young people for college, career, and life.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that student well-being is foundational to student success. 💜

Through 19 Peace Rooms across Partner San Antonio Independent School District middle and high schools, students have access to supportive spaces where they can reset, build self-regulation skills, and return to class ready to learn.

Designed to reduce punitive practices, improve attendance, and strengthen students’ sense of belonging, Peace Rooms are helping schools respond to challenges with healing-centered, trauma-informed support.

By advancing restorative approaches, inclusive discipline policies, and healing-centered programming, SAISD is implementing key Future Ready Bexar County Healing strategies that help students thrive academically and emotionally.

When young people have the tools to regulate emotions and the support to feel connected, they are better prepared to thrive.
