Roadrunner Cat Coalition (RRCC)

Roadrunner Cat Coalition (RRCC) We are a non-profit organization that cares for the feral cat population on the UTSA Campus. WHAT IS THE TRN APPROACH?

WHAT WE DO - OUR PROGRAM
--We provide daily feeding, monitoring and care of campus cats utilizing the TNR approach
--Sick or injured resident cats are humanely trapped and taken for veterinary care
--New cats or kittens are humanely trapped and taken for veterinary care including checkups, vaccinations, and spay/neuter
--Unsocialized cats are also eye-tipped for identification and are released bac

k to their campus territory where they are fed and monitored daily
--Friendly strays and kittens are fostered by a coalition volunteer and placed for adoption
--No cats are euthanized except as warranted by a veterinarian to relieve suffering
--We work closely with the UTSA Office of Facilities Work Control Team and Grounds Team to respond to issues relating to the cats on campus

The Roadrunner Cat Coalition is not a shelter or a rescue organization and does not take in cats. TNR (Trap, Neuter, and Release) is a comprehensive program to humanely reduce feral and stray cat populations. The cats are safely trapped, neutered, ear-tipped, and vaccinated by veterinarians and then returned to their home territory after recovery where they are maintained by colony caregivers. Studies have shown that TNR is the single most successful method of stabilizing and maintaining healthy feral cat colonies with the least possible costs to residents, organizations and local governments, while providing the best life for the animals themselves. The ASPCA (http://www.aspca.org/adoption/feral-cats-faq.aspx), the Humane Society of the United States (http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/feral_cats/facts/TNR_statement.html), and Alley Cat Allies (http://www.alleycat.org/page.aspx?pid=926 ) support TNR. The City of San Antonio No-Kill Initiative supports TNR. ON CAMPUS RESOURCES

Campus Emergencies Involving Animals:
For sick, injured or lost animals on the UTSA campus please do not hesitate calling for assistance – the longer you wait the less likely we will be able to rescue or help the animal. Sick or lost animals are easily disoriented and at high risk for injury. Contact the UTSA Police Department at 458-4242 or the UTSA Facilities Work Control Office at 458-4262. They will secure the animal and contact us. Animal Placement Resources:
The Roadrunner Cat Coalition does not have a shelter and cannot accept any animals. Dumping or abandoning animals on campus is against the law. For help finding a home for your pet or a stray animal, please refer to the list of local resources for area shelters or adoption groups that can assist you. Spay and Neuter Assistance:
For low-cost spay, neuter and vaccination services contact SpaySA, SNAP, Hill Country Animal League, San Antonio Humane Society, or the Animal Defense League of Texas – information on these organizations is listed under “Local Resources.”

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Annual Giving Day campaign! Your generosity helps us continue caring for our campus cats, and we are so grateful for every donation, share, and kind word.🐾🧡💙

We would also like to give a special thank you to these wonderful supporters for their generous donations:

🐱 Tracey S. for the canned Fancy Feast
🐱 The Padron Family for the Friskies canned food
🐱 Shell & Cesar A. for the kitty food
🐱 Zach and the RR Pantry for a large donation of wet food, dry food, and treats. From time to time, the San Antonio Food Bank donates pet food to the RR Pantry for students with pets, and when there is extra, Zach brings it over for the campus kitties. He has done this more than once, and we truly appreciate his kindness and thoughtfulness.

Because of supporters like you, our campus cats receive the love, care, and full bellies they deserve. Thank you for being part of our village and for helping us make a difference, one kitty at a time.🐾

It is hard to believe our beloved Harry, aka Chap Cat, has been gone for over a year now. We miss him every single day, and his absence is still deeply felt by all of us who loved him. Harry brought so much comfort, joy, and connection to our students, and his memory continues to live on in our hearts. 💙🐾

This Giving Day, we hope you will join us in honoring Harry in a truly meaningful way by supporting the students he loved so much. Please consider making a gift to the Forever a Roadrunner: Honoring Chap Cat Scholarship Fund to help future Roadrunners who will call UTSA home.

To donate, visit https://give.utsa.edu, choose your donation amount, and search “chap cat” to find Harry’s Scholarship Fund.

Thank you for loving Harry, supporting the UTSA campus kitties, and standing with the Roadrunner Cat Coalition over the past 20 years. Your kindness has meant so much, and we are grateful for each and every one of you. 🐱🧡💙

Seeking a Permanent Indoor or Safe Barn Home for Schneider

Schneider is a handsome boy looking for the right long-term placement. He would do well either as an indoor cat or in a safe, structured barn environment with proper shelter and care.

He will need someone patient and understanding who is willing to give him time to adjust and build trust at his own pace. Schneider thrives with consistency and a calm approach.

We are looking for a permanent home only. A place where he can settle in and not have to move again. He will reward the right person with loyalty and quiet companionship once he feels safe.

If you have experience with cats who need a little extra patience, or you have a barn setup where he could be cared for properly, please reach out. We’re happy to share more details with serious inquiries.

Let’s find Schneider the safe, stable forever home he deserves.🐾🖤

We would like to send a huge round of meows, purrs, and head boops to some truly amazing supporters who recently helped our community cats:

🐾 Victoria D – for generously donating cat food
🐾 Shell & Cesar A – for another wonderful cat food donation
🐾 Gwen Y – for donating a brand new trap, which helps us safely care for and protect our cats
🐾 Artea Group – for a generous monetary donation that helps support our ongoing efforts

Because of your kindness, more whiskers are fed, more paws are protected, and more cats are given a chance at a better life. We, and the cats, are beyond grateful.

Thank you for being part of our pack and supporting Roadrunner Cat Coalition!🐈‍⬛💕

🐾 Help Milo on His Road to Recovery 🐾

We were recently contacted by a friend of RRCC about a sweet kitty who had been rescued after what appeared to be a car accident. He had a badly broken leg and a serious gash, and while his rescuer was willing to foster—and possibly adopt—him, they needed help getting him the medical care he desperately needed. Thanks to a quick connection made by one of our long standing RRCC members, Milo was taken in by Homes for Pets / Schertz Humane Society, who arranged for him to see a vet. Milo underwent surgery on Monday, including a leg amputation, and we’re happy to share that he did great and is on the mend! 🐱✨

Homes for Pets is now asking for help with the cost of Milo’s surgery. If you’re able to donate, it would mean the world to this little guy.

💙 How to help:
• Donate online: https://homesforpets.org/make-a-difference/
• Or via Cash App: $homesforpets
➡️ Please note in the comments: “Donation for Milo’s amputation”

Every dollar helps, and sharing this post helps too. Thank you for supporting Milo and the amazing people who stepped up to give him a second chance at a happy life. 💕🐾

Happy Holidays from the Roadrunner Cat Coalition

Dear Friends of the Roadrunner Cat Coalition,
As the year comes to a close, our hearts are full of gratitude, full of hope, and full of the tiny pawprints left by each cat we’ve met, rescued, fostered, or simply loved from afar. Every year brings new stories, but 2025 felt especially meaningful, reminding us why this community matters and how much good we create together.
2025 was a year of surprises and second chances as we began the year on a mission of love searching for our beloved Harry, . Although our search didn’t bring Harry back to us, it led to the discovery of two new Laurel residents, Schneider and Jack, who quickly stole our hearts. Even Hobbs felt inspired to move to Laurel to join her new friends.
In March, a student at University Oaks reached out about a cat left behind during move-out: a handsome boy we named Oakley. He wandered into another student’s apartment and ended up getting a police-escorted ride in a squad car! Our very own Regina (never missing a chance for humor) renamed him JD, Juvenile Delinquent, and thanks to Charming Pet Rescue, he soon found a loving home as an emotional support companion for a young student. A little mischief turned into a miracle.
That same month, the campus community came together at Chaparral Village for a deeply emotional Celebration of Life honoring Harry. The students were especially affected, sharing stories, tears, and memories that showed just how much he meant to them. He was a cherished friend, a comforting presence, and a little piece of home at UTSA. To honor his love for the students who adored him, we established the Forever a Roadrunner: Honoring Chap Cat Scholarship. It ensures that Harry’s legacy lives on in the very community he made brighter, continuing to support the students who loved him so deeply.
Soon after, a student volunteer reached out about a sweet cat named Sophia near Chisolm. Kerri trapped her, Kelly fostered her, and Sophia surprised everyone with four kittens. Two little ones didn’t make it, but Curly, Gabby, and Sophia continue receiving care for their medical needs thanks to the compassion of their caregivers.
By late summer, we helped another University Oaks student locate his sneaky feline escape artist, Lefty, and then helped the same student get him neutered and vaccines, allowing him to stay safe and healthy in his forever home.
In September, we dedicated Harry’s memorial bench at Chaparral Village/ Roadrunner Café and placed his memorial stone at a peaceful spot for students and staff to remember their beloved Chap Cat.
October brought more surprises than anyone could have predicted. On the very day of our 20th-anniversary fundraiser, we received word of two tiny kittens abandoned outside a dorm room. Amy rushed over and took them to the vet. Little Bevo and Reveille, now known as Elliot and Abbie, are thriving in their new forever home.
And in November, a campus officer found a tiny, fragile kitten in the middle of the street who had already lost part of his front leg. We took him in, named him Hank, and with the immediate help and compassion of Molly, Kathy, and Karen, he got the urgent care he needed. Hank ultimately had to have his leg amputated, but this brave little guy is healing so well. He’s learning to take on the world on three legs with the sweetest spirit and an unbelievable amount of courage.
Our Southwest Campus cats have had an eventful year, too! We welcomed two new kittens, Dubois (Dubie) and Moo, who appeared on campus out of nowhere and quickly charmed everyone. Moo is still waiting for his trip to the vet, but he's settling in nicely.
Our beloved Patches gave us quite a scare this year, disappearing for a week and leaving us fearing the worst. When she finally returned, hungry, injured, and limping, Barbara rushed her to the vet, got her microchipped and vaccinated, and kept her indoors to heal. After a few cozy days inside… she decided she’s never going back outdoors again. She now proudly serves as the official Ceramic Department office cat, ruling her new kingdom with grace (and snacks).
Our mischievous brothers Mason and Maverick, along with JoJo, Odin, and Whiskers, continue to thrive, each with their own personality and charm. And every now and then, we catch a glimpse of the elusive Pumpkin, who keeps us guessing but always warms our hearts when he appears.
To help everyone stay safe through the winter chill, we’ve set up warm mats and weatherproof boxes to give them shelter and comfort all season long.
We often get asked why we do what we do, and the answer is simple: it’s because we see the magic that happens when kindness meets action. We can completely change the story for cats like JD, Sophia, Patches, Elliot, or Abbie. We are powered entirely by hearts like yours, and every one of our cats, from the shyest stray to the boldest troublemaker, deserves a chance at warmth, safety, and love.
From our hearts to yours, thank you for supporting the Roadrunner Cat Coalition, whether by feeding, trapping, fostering, donating, adopting, or simply caring. We truly couldn’t do this without our incredible community.
Wishing you a holiday season filled with peace, joy, and a little extra purring.
If you feel moved by the stories of our campus cats and the work we do, we invite you to help us continue this mission of compassion. A heartfelt contribution, whether through Zelle at [email protected] to support daily care, food, medical needs, and rescue efforts, or by giving to Harry’s memorial scholarship at https://fund.utsa.edu/campaigns/forever-a-roadrunner-honoring-chap-cat, helps ensure that our cats, and the students who love them, continue to feel the impact of this community’s kindness. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us create more happily-ever-afters. Thank you for opening your hearts to our Roadrunner cats.
