Iris Resendez, BCFS Health and Human Services National Director of Human Trafficking Prevention and Response, participated in the 2026 Legislative Conference in San Antonio on July 27. Her presentation, entitled “Collaboration in Action: Safeguarding Survivors of Human Trafficking,” offered an overview of human trafficking and examined coordinated strategies for serving survivors of exploitation and trafficking, and effective practices for supporting those impacted. Resendez also emphasized the cross-agency collaboration needed to deliver high-quality, survivor-centered services. Stronger partnerships can create a more integrated response, address complex needs more effectively and strengthen systems of care.

Back to school was in full swing this past Saturday at the BCFS-HHS Back to School Fair hosted at Center for Health Empowerment in South Texas (CHEST). We were thrilled to welcome children and families for a day of community, connection, and support as they prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 school year. Backpacks and plenty of school supplies were distributed to help students start the school year equipped and ready to learn. We'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our staff, volunteers, and community partners who made this event possible. Wishing all students a safe, successful, and exciting school year!

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and hope. It is the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery in the United States. As we reflect on this important day in history, we remain committed to supporting the health and well-being of everyone in our community.
