San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition

San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition In the spring of 2004, a small group met in the Whole Foods break room and discussed the plight of outside cats in San Antonio.
(1)

Our vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and no feral cats are wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern. The San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition (SAFCC) was born from that meeting and became a non-profit corporation in September of that year. On National Feral Cat Day, October 16th, 2004, SAFCC s

tarted its outreach campaign to educate the public about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). In September of the following year, SAFCC received its tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3). In the spring of 2005, SAFCC trapped 22 cats in a condemned trailer park in Southeast San Antonio. That summer, SAFCC sent 9 cats a week to the Gladys Harborth Animal Resource Center (GHARC) for spay/neuter. By the end of 2005, GHARC had increased SAFCC’s appointments to 30 per week. In January 2006, SAFCC held its first monthly workshop to teach Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and trained 220 people that year. In June 2006, SAFCC became a PetSmart adoption partner. In December 2006, SAFCC entered into an agreement with Animal Care Services and Purrfect Haven to do a pilot TNR Program of park cats at the Japanese Tea Garden which included the cats at Brackenridge Park. Since those early days, SAFCC has trained and TNR’ed thousands and has become the main voice and advocate for San Antonio’s community cats.

We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Kitten Shower on Sunday! 💙

Because of your generosity, we raised $1,250 through our online raffle and more than $300 through donations and on-site sales to support the kittens and cats in our Community Cat Adoption Program.

We’re also celebrating two kitten adoptions and an incredible outpouring of donated supplies for our foster families. We had about three car fulls of donated supplies! These much-needed items will help our volunteers care for the many kittens arriving during this busy kitten season.

Thank you to everyone who donated, purchased raffle tickets, volunteered, attended, cuddled kittens, enjoyed local coffee, and helped spread the word.

Special thanks to What's Brewing? for hosting us and helping make this event a success.

Your support is helping save lives and create brighter futures for kittens and cats in our community. 🐾

Fluent in cat? Become a helpline volunteer! 🐱

SAFCC’s Helpline is looking for volunteers to help connect Bexar County residents with TNR, spay/neuter resources, and more!

This volunteer role is remote, meaning you can volunteer from home and on a flexible schedule. No trapping or driving necessary.

We provide the training, you bring the positive catitude! ♥️🐱

It's and when it rains, it pours... both in San Antonio and in rescue.

Over the last week and a half, we've faced several medical emergencies requiring urgent veterinary care. One of those emergencies was little Enzo.

Just 30 minutes after receiving his first round of preventative care, including his FVRCP vaccine, dewormer, and a Capstar, Enzo began experiencing grand mal seizures. His foster rushed him to VEG, where the team immediately sprang into action. They ran diagnostics to rule out common causes such as anemia, dehydration, and hypoglycemia, and were able to stabilize him with anti-convulsant medications. Shout-out to VEG!

Thankfully, Enzo improved enough to be discharged, but his journey isn't over. He required a follow-up appointment and will need ongoing monitoring as we gradually wean him off his anti-convulsant medication to see if he remains stable.

The difficult part is that we still don't know why this happened. Was it stress? A rare sensitivity to one of the preventative treatments he received? Being too orange and too beautiful for this world?

Because of this frightening experience, Enzo's next wellness visit will require observation at the clinic so immediate intervention can be provided if he seizes again. We are hopeful this was a one-time event and that this sweet boy has a long, healthy future ahead of him, but we need your help getting him there.

If you'd like to support Enzo and other cats and kittens facing unexpected medical emergencies, please consider donating through this post or via CashApp, Venmo, or PayPal at CCAPadopt.

Thank you for helping us be there when the unexpected happens. 🧡

PSA: If you believe you're witnessing an animal have a seizure, stay calm, record a video and seek immediate medical assistance. The video will help the veterinarian determine if it is a seizure and what type in case another episode doesn't present at the hospital!

😻 The Ultimate "Cat Daddy" Event of the Summer! 😻

Forget the standard ties and grilling tools—this Father’s Day weekend, we are celebrating the ultimate Cat Daddies!

To honor the internet’s favorite daddy, Pedro Pascal (or as we like to call him, Pedro Pspspscal), the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition is hosting a Father's Day Cat Adoption Event this Saturday! Whether you’re looking to become a first-time cat dad, expand your fur-family, or just find a kitty who looks at you the way the internet looks at Pedro, we’ve got you covered.

Our adoptable cats are charming, loving, and ready to find their forever homes.

📅 Event Details:
When: This Saturday, June 20th | 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Where: PetSmart at Dove Creek (San Antonio, TX)
The Vibe: Pure joy, a lot of pspsps, and unconditional feline love.

Pro-Tip: Bring your favorite "Cat Daddy" down to meet his match. Studies show men holding cats are 100% more irresistible.* (*Source: Trust us, we know cats).

Come out, support the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition, and maybe take home a little legend of your own. See you there! 🐾

It’s kitten season, which means we’re getting a surge of questions about TNR and how to help make a difference. 💚

Tomorrow’s In-Person TNR Class will give you the knowledge and confidence to handle it all. Join us Saturday, June 13, from 12–1:15pm to learn everything you need to know about Trap-Neuter-Return from start to finish! Doors open at 11:30 am. Our classes cover crucial material from beginning to end, and credit for the class will not be given to late arrivals. This means you won’t be able to take advantage of our trap loans and subsidized surgeries. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for traffic or construction. Class is free to attend and no RSVP is needed!
