Our partnerships ensure we continue our mission of building strong, stable, and secure military and veteran families by improving their financial, emotional, and social well-being. And our longstanding partnership with Mars, Incorporated is helping bring this mission to light and stronger than ever.

Earlier this month, our President and CEO, Alan Reyes, met with the Mars Snacking team to discuss how our partnership is built on synergies like quality, mutuality, and freedom. With programs that tackle food insecurity, like our Holiday Meals for Military, or programs that help with rising costs like our Back-to-School Brigade, Mars Snacking has contributed more than $1.1 million in combined cash and in-kind support, helping us strengthen these programs that create stability and connection for military families across the country.

With the challenges our military and veteran families continue to face, our plans with Mars Snacking will only grow in the upcoming years. We look forward to what we can accomplish together for our military community.

Gardening, building furniture and toys, assembling a grill, and stocking up the pantry are just some of the things the Smithfield Foods team did to make the Stout family ready for the summer season. 🌞

The Stout family is part of our Transitional Homes for Veterans (THV) program, a gateway to stability and support for families working toward self-sufficiency. The patriarch, Branden Stout, served five years in the Navy before honorably discharging in 2013. In 2018, he re-enlisted in the Army and served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His military career ended in 2025, and the THV program is helping the Stout family transition to civilian life while remaining near their support system in Fayetteville.

The support of Smithfield Foods didn’t stop there, as they are investing $150,000 in Operation Homefront’s Transitional Housing and Holiday Meals for Military® programs. We look forward to continuing to build strong, stable, and secure military and veteran families with the help of partners like Smithfield Foods.

This Memorial Day, we reflect on the true cost of freedom as we hold close the lives lost too soon for a greater mission.

Take a moment to pause and honor our fallen heroes, for it's their courage and dedication that let us live freely. We cherish their sacrifice and service and stand in the shadow of their legacy. We will forever remember your valor and selflessness.

With the help of our Critical Financial Assistance Program® and donors like Wounded Warrior Project, we uplift many military families like the Jones family. Brian Jones joined the military in 2005 to provide stability for his wife, Jessica, and their growing family. He served 14 years, including a deployment to Iraq.

In March 2025, tragedy struck the Jones family when they lost their 19 year old son. The sudden loss left the family with unimaginable grief on top of the piling funeral costs. As the Joneses felt their financial stability begin to slip, they reached out to Operation Homefront’s Critical Financial Assistance Program® for help. The program is designed to provide short-term financial assistance to military families experiencing financial hardship.

The Jones family knew they could count on Operation Homefront, as they had attended other events like the Back-to-School Brigade® and Holiday Meals for Military®, programs that brought relief.

The caseworker immediately offered outside resources for assistance with burial costs. Then, they applied for and were granted assistance to relieve the threat of housing insecurity in the aftermath of their son’s death. The Jones family is appreciative of organizations like Operation Homefront, which help fill in the gaps when help is needed.

“You can prepare for absolutely everything and still be surprised.”

Meet Rose Wilson, a support recipient turned Critical Financial Assistance Program® caseworker. Her story as an Army spouse and mom is one of resilience and adaptability.

Rose’s husband, Rob, joined the Army Reserve at a young age. Rose came to know military life as one weekend a month and occasional active-duty time. But things quickly changed after 9/11, and Rob’s unit was activated. Orders were placed and then canceled, and the family waited and waited. Finally, in 2008, orders to Iraq came again, and Rob deployed that fall for 18 months with a forward surgical team.

With the uncertainty of Rob’s return, Rose’s priority was to maintain stability while raising a blended family of 5 children. Before Rob’s deployment, he addressed maintenance issues at their upstate New York home, but major problems still arose. It started with an electrical failure in the dining room, which an electrician fixed. But just one month later, Rose discovered water in the basement. She searched for resources and found Operation Homefront.

After reaching out, she saw the power of the military and veteran support organization. It started with a caseworker who connected Rose with a team to diagnose and replace the collapsed sewer line that forced wastewater back into the house and caused a pipe to crack. She was in awe of how quickly Operation Homefront stepped in to help.

That summer, Rose started volunteering with the organization, which led to a contractor role, and then a regional position. Her story came full circle in 2015 when she joined the Critical Financial Assistance Program® team, supporting military and veteran families during their time of need. Rose’s experience as a military spouse has shaped her compassion, and her empathy is what makes her an amazing caseworker, bringing ease to our military families.

With the help of Dollar Tree, Operation Homefront's Transitional Homes for Veterans is changing another military family's life. 💙

Meet Samuel Gouzoules and his wife, Athena. Samuel's upbringing laid the foundation for him to join the Army at 23 years old. Samuel was adopted from Mexico at 7 years old into an American family and developed a strong appreciation for the United States. As many do, he planned to serve for 20 years, but chronic pain from arthritis and a pinched nerve led to his honorable discharge in December 2025.
Samuel and Athena felt a strong pull to El Paso, Texas. Their previous experiences in the town helped them develop strong, meaningful connections. But the transition to civilian life proved challenging, and in early 2025, Athena experienced a difficult pregnancy that required a 2-month bed rest, forcing her to leave work. Then came another financial strain when the family car was totaled due to a rear-end collision.

It was almost time for the Gouzoules to relocate to their final duty station, El Paso. That's when they found our Transitional Homes for Veterans program. This program helps reduce this stress, enables Samuel to pursue his educational goals, and supports long-term stability, something every military family deserves.

We thank Dollar Tree for its commitment to our military families. Since the start of this partnership in 2006, the company has provided more than $200 million in cash and in-kind support for programs, including funding the purchase of this fourth transitional home, which will benefit multiple military families for years to come.
