Communities In Schools of San Antonio CIS-SA's mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school & achieve in life.

We serve more than 90,000 kids in grades K-12 at more than 116 schools across 14 school districts and 7 Charter Networks. Our case managers work directly on school campuses providing professional, accessible services to at-risk students and their families. As a community facilitator, CIS-SA brings a wide range of resources into schools to provide additional support and connections to needed services and goods. By collaboration and partnerships with nearly 100 community and government agencies we avoid duplication of services and operate most efficiently and cost-effectively.

A huge THANK YOU to our longtime supporters at Valero Energy and their dedicated employees for collecting jackets for CIS-SA students year after year! ❤️

Like clockwork, their generosity arrives just in time for colder weather—and with today’s cold front rolling in, the timing couldn’t be more perfect! These 412 new jackets donated help keep students warm, comfortable, and ready to learn.

At Herff Elementary School, CIS-SA Site Coordinator Monica Cervantes partnered with SAFB to host a community food distribution, helping ensure families have the resources they need for a successful day. Building Teamwork, Resilience & Connection at CAST Imagine! 🌟

Students at CAST Imagine has an exciting opportunity to strengthen their teamwork and leadership skills through an engaging ROPES training facilitated by CIS-SA team members Kim and Maria.

Through interactive, hands-on activities, students explored the importance of resilience, maintaining a growth mindset, collaborative communication, and valuing diversity. From the Hula Hoop Group and Silent Birthday Lineup to the 3-6-9 Circle, students put their skills into action while learning to think creatively, communicate effectively, and recognize the unique strengths each person brings to a team. Every great team starts with trust, communication, and a willingness to learn!

As students returned from Fall Break, Rayburn Middle School celebrated attendance with Paletas for Being Present Day. Students who were present enjoyed a refreshing treat during lunch, reinforcing the importance of showing up, staying engaged, and being ready to learn.

✨🚀Exploring Future Career Pathways at CAST Tech High School! ✨🚀

On October 8, CAST Tech High School 9th Grade students participated in Industry Day, where they had the opportunity to connect with community partners and learn about a variety of career paths, professional journeys, and future possibilities.

Students engaged in hands-on activities led by Texas Biomedical Research Institute, which challenged their fine motor skills, patience, and problem-solving abilities. Representatives from Universal Technical Institute also shared valuable insights into career opportunities, encouraging students to start thinking about their futures and the many paths available to them.

Building skills for success one lesson at a time!

5th graders at JT Brackenridge Elementary are strengthening their executive functioning skills and discovering how these important tools can help them succeed both in and out of the classroom. Through engaging activities and discussions, students are learning about self-control, time management, positive thinking, perseverance, motivation, and organization.

These skills help students stay focused, work through challenges, manage responsibilities, and achieve their goals. Whether it's completing assignments, solving problems, or building confidence, executive functioning skills provide a strong foundation for future success.

By investing in these life skills today, we're helping students develop the habits and mindset they need to thrive tomorrow. Way to go, JT Brackenridge 5th graders!

🎓✨Kicking off Senior Year together!

Nineteen Hartford InspireU mentors and mentees from John Jay High School recently reunited for their first mentoring session of the school year. After four years of encouragement, guidance, and support, these mentors have been alongside their students every step of the way, making this final year together meaningful.

The group also took part in Low Ropes activities led by CIS-SA's very own Kim Beauchamp, enjoying fun team-building challenges that strengthened connections and celebrated how far these students have come.

As graduation draws closer, we're proud to see these students continuing to grow, achieve, and prepare for their next chapter. 💙
