Another super successful TXSER board retreat! We got so much done and had so much fun! 👏😀

In previous years we’ve done more visioning and planning but this year we spent most of our time getting stuff done and it felt so good! We developed a new small grants program, refined rubrics and application forms for our scholarships and student awards, researched the CERP and CERPIT programs and CEUs for other related programs, evaluated progress and planned for our ROOTS grant which supports student membership and programming, updated the website, organized files, and started working on T-shirts and hats. We also hiked, looked at plants, chatted about life, saw lots of turkeys, a golden cheeked warbler, and a baby monarch caterpillar, and we ate delicious meals- including handmade pasta for dinner one night! This board is the greatest 😊

Thanks to The Nature Conservancy for hosting us at their Cibolo Bluffs Preserve, and board members Brandon Belcher and Jacquie Ferrato for coordinating the visit!

TXSER board members Amy Concilio, Becky Woodward, and Emma Morris had an active couple of days of tabling at the Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability (TRACS) annual conference at St Edward’s University, *and* the Texas Science Festival at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center! And new member Daniel MacKenzie jumped in to help for the LBJWC event!

There was a lot of interest in SER membership and our next conference in South Texas, and it was so fun to meet more folks who work on restoration research and practice!

Thanks to the hosts and volunteers for making these events possible! Look forward to seeing new faces at our November conference in Quinta Mazatlan!

Happy to have attended the Texas Chapter of the Wildlife Society annual meeting in Galveston recently to promote our society and annual meeting coming to the Rio Grande Valley in November! It was great to interact with Wildlife Professionals from across the state! Thanks to our Board Member Austin R. Kelly for bringing the gap between wildlife and restoration ecology, and manning the table!

Also, if you know a Convention or Meeting we should be attending please reach out and let us know! We're always willing to trade exhibitor booth space with similar organizations!

Members of TXSER, students and staff from in St Edward’s University, and members of the Central Texas Cherokee Township joined TTBP Ranch Manger Denise Lozano and Regenerative Agriculture Curriculum Developer Charles Bush for a tour of their Waelder, TX ranch on Friday, Dec 5. The TTBP is a Lipan-Apache led project to rematriate the land, bringing back the buffalo and native grasses, providing healthy nourishing food to Central Texans most in need, and bringing together Texas tribal peoples. ❤️

It was super inspiring and informative, and really special to be able to see the buffalo up close (just beyond a very strong fence 😉)! Thanks so much to Denise and Charles for sharing your stories with us, and for the important work y’all are doing!!

As a special surprise treat, Doug Martin led us in a traditional Cherokee buffalo dance at the end of the tour!

These gorgeous photos were captured by SEU student, Dalia Zamora. Thanks Dalia!

Check out TTBP’s website and follow them on social media to find out about joining them for events, volunteering, and/or purchasing their meat!

What an honor to have Lucille Contreras of the Texas Tribal Buffalo Project deliver the keynote address at our annual TXSER conference this year! Lucille’s talk was inspiring and thought-provoking, and sparked many discussions throughout the weekend about how we can (and should!) incorporate traditional ecological knowledge into our work as restoration practitioners and researchers.

We had originally planned a field trip to one of the TTBP ranches during the conference , but it was postponed due to a mix-up and will instead be ***this Friday, Dec 5****. The good news is that there are some available spots! It’s $25 per person and all proceeds go to TTBP to support the important restoration work being done on their land! Let us know if you are interested in joining!

To find out more about the TRBP, check out their website and follow them on social media!

Thanks so much to all the universities that supported students attending and presenting at the TXSER annual conference in San Antonio this past weekend! We were so inspired to hear about all the great work that students are doing across the state! Official university sponsors included Trinity University, UNT, and St Edward’s University. Other colleges and universities no doubt supported their students in other ways ☺️🙏

We are excited to support new student chapters this year, and to expand our student programming at next year’s conference!

Check out our website and contact us if you want to get involved!

Kicking off the 28th Annual Texas Society for Ecological Restoration Conference with a fantastic tour of the San Antonio Botanical Garden this morning!

It was an inspiring way to see their collections and conservation work up close. A huge thank you to the garden staff for hosting our group.

This was the perfect start to the conference. I'm really looking forward to the next couple of days of talks, workshops, and connecting with fellow researchers and practitioners. This year's theme, "Restoration for Resilience," is more important than ever.

Excited for all the great things to come!
