A great day of connection, collaboration, and a little friendly competition! 🏓

Following a productive team-building discussion, the Metis team headed to the pickleball courts for some fun and teamwork in action. It was a great way to connect outside of our day-to-day work, strengthen relationships, and enjoy a collaborative game together.

Strong teams are built through communication, connection, and shared experiences—and sometimes a good pickleball match! 💪✨

The US Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) is conducting a research study that will look at whether transfusing plasma early in the course of treatment will increase the likelihood that severely burned patients will survive their injuries.

The Plasma Resuscitation Early for Evaluating Volume and Endotheliopathy of Thermal Injury (PREEVEnT) trial will include approximately 750 people aged 18 to 75 from across the country, including the south Texas area. Patients who have severe thermal burn injuries covering at least 20% of their total body surface may be enrolled after arrival to the USAISR Burn Center.

PREEVEnT is an Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) trial, meaning that the trial requires performing a potentially life-saving intervention in people who are too injured to give permission. This study will look at treatment for patients who have a severe thermal burn injury and will be admitted into the burn ICU. These patients are too injured to give permission before
receiving plasma for the study. Permission for continued participation will be obtained from patients once they are able to provide, or from their family members, as soon as possible.

For more information about PREEVEnT or to complete an anonymous survey on your thoughts about this EFIC study, please go to www.litesnetwork.org/PREEVENT.

The Metis Foundation was excited to attend ARPA-H’s Healthy Buildings Demo Day and learn more about the groundbreaking work being advanced through the BREATHE program. The event highlighted innovative technologies and research aimed at improving indoor air quality, detecting airborne health threats, and creating safer, healthier environments where people live, work, learn, and receive care. Engaging with researchers, innovators, and industry leaders provided valuable insight into how these advancements can strengthen public health resilience and drive meaningful improvements in human health. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of these important conversations and to share how we are helping shape the future of healthier environments through our collaborations with Uniformed Services University, Brooke Army Medical Center, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and Madigan Army Medical Center.

We had a great visit to Navy Portsmouth Medical Center last month. It was nice to spend time with our collaborators and connect in person with fellow Metis team members.

We really enjoyed getting a closer look at the research happening and hearing directly from the teams leading the work. We’re grateful for the invitation and for making the visit such a positive experience. Looking forward to being back soon! 🌟
