Last week, Alamo Angels hosted its flagship community gathering with Rafael Lopez, co-founder of ZenBusiness and founder of Nibbles, a current portfolio company. The conversation was led by Don Douglas of Geekdom Fund, an early investor in ZenBusiness, on what it actually takes to build and scale a venture-backed company.

Founded in Austin in 2015, ZenBusiness grew into a platform serving hundreds of thousands of small business owners and reached a billion dollar valuation, one of the more notable outcomes to emerge from the Texas.

Rather than a rehearsed retrospective, the session brought the founder and the early investor into the same room to trace the decisions that shaped that trajectory.

There was a full circle quality to it for us. We heard the arc of one company from the people who built and backed it, and through Nibbles we now get to support Rafael on what comes next.

Many thanks to Don and Rafael, and to the members who joined us. Our flagship gatherings exist to give this community direct access to the operators and investors behind real outcomes, and this was a strong example of that.

Two years ago, we made it official: Alamo Angels was opening a chapter in the Rio Grande Valley. It was a strategic commitment to one of the most underestimated innovation corridors in the United States.

But the real story started before that. It started with showing up. Listening. Building relationships on the ground. Because in early-stage investing, trust is the currency and you can’t build it from a distance.

Every year we come back, we see more founders, bigger ideas, and stronger energy. This scene is accelerating and Alamo Angels is here to make sure the right people have a seat at the table.

Alamo Angels is proud to back Darkhive in their $30M Series B.

The round was led by RTX Ventures, with new investors Draper Associates and Bison Capital joining returning investors Crosslink Capital, 1011 Ventures, Stellar Ventures, and Alamo Angels. We first backed Darkhive at the pre-seed in 2022, and the Series B is the latest validation of that conviction.

Founded by John Goodson and headquartered in San Antonio, Darkhive develops advanced, software-defined hardware engineered for fast adaptation and scalable production. Darkhive's mission is to equip those who serve with the cutting-edge technology needed to assure success across operational domains.

Darkhive runs major programs with the U.S. Air Force, the Defense Innovation Unit, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. Earlier this year, the Pentagon selected Darkhive to lead a $49.7M APFIT program, the single largest award in program history.

Last week, David Kestenbaum led our Masterclass series and walked the room through his own angel portfolio. No highlight reel. 16 companies in 3 years, every position on the table.

A founder with deep experience in venture capital, David managed a ~$350M corporate venture portfolio before bringing those same frameworks to angel investing.

Swipe through for the 6 insights he left us with. 👉

Thank you David for bringing this level of honesty to our community. And thank you to everyone who joined us.

We are incredibly proud to share that our portfolio company took the top spot at StartCo, rising above 350 startups from across LatAm. This recognition, backed by a 15,000+ audience, reflects the strength of both the team and the mission.

It’s exactly the kind of bold, technically ambitious, and purpose-driven company we are proud to support at Alamo Angels. Congratulations to , and the entire team. This is just the beginning.

Sebastian Garzon, Managing Partner of Alamo Angels and board member of , walked away from TechFuel 2026 with a conviction he hasn’t felt before — San Antonio has crossed a threshold 🚀.

Here are the 3 signals that tell him this ecosystem has finally arrived.

After years of institution-building by organizations like Alamo Angels and Tech Bloc, the talent, capital, and community have reached a critical mass and the results are showing up on stage💡

Huge congrats to Freyya and Gabriele Niederauer on taking home the $50K grand prize at TechBloc's TechFuel 2026 Pitch Competition last night.

Freyya is building real-time, data-driven care for pelvic floor health, a space that has gone underserved for far too long despite affecting millions of women.

We've now backed two of Gabi's companies. In San Antonio, you bet on the people, and Gabi is one of the best we've got.

And for the second year running, an Alamo Angels portfolio company has walked away with the top prize. That's not luck. That's the caliber of founders building here.

Also a big shoutout to RentBamboo for second place and the audience vote, and to OpenLane for the honorable mention.

Big week for Alamo Angels. 🤝

Our own .sebastian.garzon was on two panels across BioMedSA’s BioFest …talking angel capital access, founder education, and what it really takes to build investable health tech in today’s AI market.

The through line: founders who understand what investors are evaluating show up differently. That transparency is something we care about deeply at Alamo Angels.

Texas health innovation is for real. Let’s keep building. 🤘

This week, Alamo Angels hosted Chris Camillo for a conversation on humanoid robotics and why he believes it's the most important investment opportunity of our lifetime.

Chris turned $20K into $60M+ by identifying cultural shifts before they moved markets, a strategy he pioneered called social arbitrage that earned him a chapter in Jack Schwager's Unknown Market Wizards.

He turned that same lens toward humanoid robotics and has logged over 1,000 hours of research, visited the labs, met the founders, and invested his own capital into companies like FigureAI and Apptronik.

Last Thursday, he brought all of that to our members, unfiltered, giving them a clear picture of how he went from skeptic to true believer, the second-order investment opportunities in the space, and much more.

The conversation was moderated by Christopher Hanson, Managing Partner at Grant Park Ventures and CEO of portfolio company Dyme, with a founder spotlight from Ryan Saavedra of Alt-Bionics, Inc.

This is what Alamo Angels exists to do. Put our members in the room with the people closest to the ideas that will define the next decade.
