Public comment on the proposed K-12 social studies TEKs is now open! The State Board of Education is meeting in June to vote on final approval for the new curriculum standards.

This is our last chance to fight for our students to receive a quality education that teaches them critical thinking skills and best prepares them to become thoughtful leaders and citizens.

The State Board of Education voted to advance the proposed required reading lists for English and language arts in grades K-12 including passages from the Bible.

Elected officials cannot turn our public schools into Sunday schools. All students deserve to feel safe and welcome, so they can focus on learning and feel supported. As the final vote approaches in June, we will continue advocating for the separation of church and state.

Raises that the Texas Legislature provided for most Texas teachers last year increased the average teacher pay by more than $4,000 a year. But Texas teachers were so far behind their peers in most other states that they still trail the national average by more than $8,500, according to the NEA's annual survey of state financial contributions to public education.

While Governor Greg Abbott and the legislative majority last year allotted $1 billion in tax funds for private school vouchers, public schools serving the majority of Texas students are struggling with inadequate funding.

This policy failure is the direct result of elected leaders who put billionaires before students, who have overseen growing income inequality and who have allowed CEO earnings to soar while educator wages don’t keep up with inflation.
