The historic Braun farmhouse, now home to Immersion Outfitters, isn’t merely a collection of wood and stone; it is what many who step onto its soil call holy ground.

Yesterday, my wife and I spent time at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery placing flags on the graves of the fallen. As we moved from row to row, we made it a point not to rush. At each grave, we read the soldier’s name aloud, spoke it into the quiet air, and said a simple, heartfelt “Thank you for your service.”

It was an incredibly humbling honor. Hearing those names out loud brought home the heavy reality of John 15:13:

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Every flag represented a real man or woman who reached the ultimate limit of love and sacrifice. They gave up everything so that we could have the freedom to live, to worship, and to lead our families in peace.

As we reflect this Memorial Day, let’s remember that our freedom was bought at a high price—both by the blood of Christ and the selfless love of those who served. Let us never take their sacrifices for granted. Instead, let’s resolve to live lives worthy of the incredible grace and freedom we’ve been given. Take time today to honor our fallen heroes, lift up the families who still miss them, and thank God for the brave men and women who stood the line.

Have a blessed and meaningful Memorial Day.

In His strength,

George Ramirez
