September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.

Mental health can be influenced by many factors, including financial stress. Research shows that financial hardships may increase su***de risk for some Veterans, particularly when multiple challenges occur at the same time. Recognizing financial distress early and seeking support can make a difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available through the Veterans Crisis Line: Dial 988 and press 1, text 838255, or visit VeteransCrisisLine.net.

Is a PCS on the horizon for your family? As you prepare for your move, don’t forget to plan for your four-legged friend’s travel costs, too! 🐶

Here are a few tips to help make the move easier for you and your pet:

📦 Space on government transportation is limited, so plan ahead. Consider travel costs, confirm pet policies, and book as soon as possible, as only one pet may travel for free.
📦 You may be reimbursed for moving one dog or cat — up to $2,000 for an overseas PCS or $550 within the U.S. Keep all receipts and include expenses in your PCS travel claim.
📦 Check pet entry rules early so you can budget for required vaccines, health documents, quarantine fees or other travel costs.
📦 Consider microchipping your pet before you move and include any related vet fees in your PCS budget.
📦 And more!

With the right preparation, you can help your pet make a safe and comfortable transition to your new home 🏡🐾.

School lunches are back on the menu! If you're looking for ways to keep grocery costs in check, a few simple habits can make a difference.

📝 Start with one base ingredient. Choose something you can use across several lunches, like chicken, rice, pasta, or tortillas.
💲 Break down the cost per serving. Compare package sizes and serving counts to see what gives you the most for your money.
🍽️ Make leftovers lunch-ready. Pack extra servings into containers after dinner so they’re ready to grab the next day.
🥪 Choose ingredients you can use in multiple meals. Pick foods that work across lunches, snacks, and dinners to get more from every grocery trip.

If you're headed to the commissary, bring your lunch plan and shopping list with you to help make the most of every dollar this school year.

Military Retirement comes with some tough decisions, but protecting your family doesn't have to be one of them.

The Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) and life insurance can both help protect your family's financial future, but they work in different ways.

SBP provides eligible surviving spouses with a guaranteed, inflation-adjusted monthly benefit for life. Life insurance typically provides a lump-sum payment that can help pay off debt, replace income or cover other financial needs.

🚗 Buying a car is a major financial decision, and for service members, making a confident choice starts with looking beyond the monthly payment.

Before you commit, think about the full cost of ownership, including insurance, fuel, maintenance, registration, and other ongoing expenses.

Understanding the complete picture can help you choose a vehicle that fits your budget and supports your long-term financial goals.

The USAA Educational Foundation team had an great time at the Southwest Women Veterans Enrollment Summit last month in San Antonio!

Over two inspiring days, we connected with women veterans from across the region, shared financial education resources, and had meaningful conversations about financial readiness and lifelong success.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from the experiences and stories shared by attendees. Every conversation reinforced the importance of supporting those who have served and strengthening the communities we call home.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to connect with us. We enjoyed meeting you and look forward to future opportunities to serve and support the women Veteran community. Center for Women Veterans, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
