This weekend, we begin “Called by Name” at all parishes!

God may be calling someone in your life to a special vocation, but sometimes all it takes is someone asking the question. If you know someone who might be called to the priesthood or religious life, don’t be afraid to ask them! Your encouragement could be the first step in their discernment journey.

| A Call That Never Left

This week, we hear from Fr. Evan Wittig, Parochial Vicar at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, whose vocation story reminds us that God’s call can unfold in unexpected ways and at different moments in our lives.

Fr. Evan first felt called to the priesthood while in college, but later discerned a call to marriage and family life. After 41 years of marriage and the passing of his wife, he found himself once again asking the Lord, “Could you be calling me?”

In 2023, Fr. Evan entered Assumption Seminary. After decades as a deacon, he was ordained a priest in May.

Today, he says simply:

“I just love being a priest. I’m very happy being a priest.”

His journey is a beautiful reminder that discernment is not always a straight line. Sometimes, God places a small question in our hearts and invites us to take the next step.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Could God be calling me?” don’t be afraid to explore that question. Pray, seek the Lord, and take the next step. 🙏
