Last month, SACIV welcomed 10 senior government communicators, public affairs professionals, and border security officials from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama as part of an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) sub-regional exchange.
The group explored approaches to strategic communication, interagency collaboration, border security, and public messaging while learning from U.S. counterparts and experiencing the Texas-Mexico border region firsthand.
In Texas, participants met with representatives from the Texas Border Coalition, University of Incarnate Word, Southwest Texas Fusion Center, and U.S. Border Patrol, and traveled to Laredo to learn firsthand about the U.S.-Mexico border region and the work of professionals on the ground.
The program also included home hospitality, offering participants an opportunity to connect with San Antonio community members beyond the professional setting. Over shared meals and conversations, hosts and visitors exchanged stories, traditions, and perspectives—building personal connections along the way.
Through professional exchanges and personal connections, IVLP helps build understanding, strengthen international partnerships, and advance people-to-people diplomacy. 🇺🇸🌎
