It is with a heavy heart that I post Rocky Diaz, one of mom's students, died suddenly yesterday. At our 2003 reunion, Mom especially wanted her picture taken with Rocky.

Hello - thank you for visiting this page. Since my mom passed away in 2008, I have tried to keep her memory alive through the support of a scholarship in her name. I've received a handful of donations from people who knew my mom, but a majority of the funding has been from my wife and myself, upwards of $18,000. If we were to receive at least $50,000, the fund could be self-sustaining, albeit at a low level. But we have not received any donations outside of our family in the last seven years since my mom's passing. So I am making a plea to help keep her memory alive with donations for 2016. If we don't reach at least $30,000, I will be forced to instruct the scholarship trustees that the scholarship is over and will give the balance to one deserving student - and that will end the scholarship. Please consider donating - my mom changed many people's lives and I think her teaching should be remembered.

This page is part of an effort to promote interest in the Rita Harlien Forensic Scholarship. Started in 2008, it serves to preserve the memory of Rita Harlien and award a student attending Eastwood High School who has shown a measure of interest and/or success in the speech or drama programs at the school.
