Welcome to the Mars Club of San Antonio, a group of Mars supporters combined from different Mars groups such as the Mars Society, Mars One, and Mars Initiative. The Mars Society was formed in 1998 by Dr. Robert Zubrin, an aerospace engineer, an author, and the president of the Mars Society. Dr. Zubrin is the mastermind behind Mars Direct, a proposed and cost-effective manned mission to Mars to be
conducted with current technology. Mars One is a not for profit foundation with the goal of establishing a permanent human settlement on Mars. They plan to raise funds for this using corporate sponsorships and selling TV rights to a reality show style astronaut selection process as well as video of the mission to Mars and the video of the first steps of a human on Mars, which should have near universal viewership. Mars One is a global initiative aiming to make this everyone's mission to Mars, including yours. Join Mars One’s efforts to enable the next giant leap for mankind. The Mars Initiative's primary approach is to provide an online transparent fundraising venue for the Mars Prize Fund, which can be thought of as a public savings account for the first successful human Mars mission. We envision that the Mars Prize Fund will encourage the fulfillment of our mission statement by incentivizing the first successful human Mars landing much like the X prize. Mars Initiative is a global fundraising organization, dedicated to raising Prize money to award the first mission that lands humans on Mars. Mars Initiative is a non-profit organization, 501(c)3. They are comprised entirely of volunteers from around the world who donate their time and expertise. One hundred percent of the money they receive will be awarded to the first entity that lands humans on Mars. Their goal is for one million people to subscribe at least $2.00 per month - One Million People for a Human Mars Mission. The Mars Club of San Antonio is a group to bring together all Mars supporters in San Antonio and the surrounding areas including those who already support one or more of the above organizations. It will organize mostly social activities so that individuals of similar interest can meet in person a perhaps view a Mars movie, or to go to the planetarium together, but it may also encourage members to pool resources and aid the efforts of the above organizations.
