San Antonio Local Music Guild

MEETINGS & WORKSHOPS: Guild meetings are generally for networking and involve some resourceful and/or educational aspect in the form of a demonstration, discussion, or hands on workshop led by a guest speaker. The meetings also serve as an opportunity to look ahead at larger, long-term projects and events, and allow for the formation of committees to take on these projects.   Our goal is to have these meetings on a consistent basis, and we move around to different locations to provide access to a wider range of area natives. Aside from these regular meetings, we seek to organize larger, more focused panels and workshops from time to time, allowing us space and time to get deeper into a variety of topics relevant to independent local musicians performing their own original music and attempting to find some longevity in the process. STRUCTURE: Founder George Garza, Jr. and other core organizers are symbolic Captains of the Guild. Captains are appointed to head Guild Committees that take on special projects. They act as the main liaison between Committees and other core organizers. Organizational roles are defined by necessity, e.g., media producer, public relations, website moderator, social media administrator. 2015 GOALS: Regular meetings, workshops, and guest speakers. +Topics to include booking and promoting best practices, social networking tips, organizing online presence, how to get a write-up, interview etiquette, DIY merchandising, owning your music, and the importance of professional recordings. +Guests to include staff from KRTU 91.7fm, KSYM 90.1fm, San Antonio Current, and the San Antonio Express News.
