What happens when students take their aerospace skills beyond the classroom and put them to work solving real community challenges?
This summer, six CAST STEM (Southwest ISD) students did exactly that using drones, geospatial mapping, data collection, and research to better understand walkability, accessibility, and infrastructure on San Antonio’s Southwest Side.
We’re proud to have developed this paid internship alongside the Center for Health Empowerment in South Texas (CHEST), creating an opportunity for students to build on their drone experience while seeing how emerging technologies can be applied across industries and in their own community.
Thank you to Workforce Solutions Alamo, the 80/20 Foundation, Amazon.com, CAST STEM, and Southwest ISD for helping make this pilot possible and to Xochilt Garcia and the San Antonio Report for spending the summer following these students and telling their story.
This is what career-connected learning can look like. ✈️
