Dee Howard Foundation

Dee Howard Foundation We work to ensure that our youth have access to Aerospace Education and Careers.

The Dee Howard Foundation believes there is work to do (in collaboration with our community partners) to preserve and build on the legacies of Dee Howard, Ed Swearingen, and other San Antonio aviation pioneers by improving access to and the quality of education, technical skills training, and employment opportunities in the San Antonio Region and continuing the legacy of innovative technological l

eadership in the global aviation and aerospace markets. In July 2013, Dee Howard's children, Dee Ann Bridges and Lonnie Dean Howard, in collaboration with Dee's long time friend and former Senior Vice President and General Counsel of The Dee Howard Co., Wayne I. Fagan, established The Dee Howard Foundation Fund at the San Antonio Area Foundation. The Dee Howard Foundation was founded to build on the legacy of legendary aviation pioneer and entrepreneur Dee Howard by preserving the rich history of aviation in San Antonio of which Dee was a part, and to build and expand on that history for current and future generations.

What happens when students take their aerospace skills beyond the classroom and put them to work solving real community challenges?

This summer, six CAST STEM (Southwest ISD) students did exactly that using drones, geospatial mapping, data collection, and research to better understand walkability, accessibility, and infrastructure on San Antonio’s Southwest Side.

We’re proud to have developed this paid internship alongside the Center for Health Empowerment in South Texas (CHEST), creating an opportunity for students to build on their drone experience while seeing how emerging technologies can be applied across industries and in their own community.

Thank you to Workforce Solutions Alamo, the 80/20 Foundation, Amazon.com, CAST STEM, and Southwest ISD for helping make this pilot possible and to Xochilt Garcia and the San Antonio Report for spending the summer following these students and telling their story.

This is what career-connected learning can look like. ✈️

Happy National Intern Day!

Today we're celebrating Valerie Guerra, our Program & Communications Intern, for the incredible impact she's made this summer through a collaborative internship between The Dee Howard Foundation and the Center for Health Empowerment in South Texas (CHEST).

From supporting our @ CAST STEM summer project and Educator Externship to strengthening our storytelling and mapping K–12 aerospace and STEM opportunities across our community, Valerie has been an incredible asset to our team.

This internship has been made possible through the Students + Startups Internship Program, and we're grateful to the 80/20 Foundation for investing in the next generation of nonprofit leaders and creating opportunities like this.

Thank you, Valerie, for your creativity, professionalism, and dedication. We're grateful to have you on this journey and can't wait to see what's next!

Connecting Educators Today. Building Tomorrow's Aerospace Workforce.

This summer, the Dee Howard Foundation partnered with ATEAMS, Workforce Solutions Alamo, and four incredible aerospace employers to provide educators with an inside look at San Antonio's aerospace industry. When educators experience industry firsthand, students gain a clearer picture of what's possible.

Over four days, 37 educators representing 11 school districts explored aircraft maintenance, advanced manufacturing, engineering, research, workforce pathways, and internship opportunities through visits to:
✈️ ST Engineering - San Antonio Aerospace
✈️ Knight Aerospace
✈️ Southwest Research Institute (SwRI)
✈️ StandardAero

The impact extends well beyond one week. These educators now become part of the Dee Howard Foundation's Future-Ready Aerospace Educator Community of Practice, where they'll continue collaborating with industry partners and bringing real-world career connections into their classrooms throughout the year.

A heartfelt thank you to our employer partners, ATEAMS, and Workforce Solutions Alamo for investing in our educators and the next generation of aerospace talent.

Look to the sky and San Antonio!

The future of aerospace is not just happening in space. It is being built right here in San Antonio.

Through partnerships like those at Port San Antonio with Astroport Space Technologies and the WEX Foundation students are gaining real exposure to the work shaping life beyond Earth.

At The Dee Howard Foundation, we are proud to help build that pipeline. When students engage directly with industry, they begin to see their place in it and prepare for the careers that will define the future.

The next generation is not just looking up. They are getting ready to lead right here at home.
