Bringing Healthy Work Environments to the Bedside 💙

The San Antonio AACN Chapter continues to advance AACN’s Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards across our local nursing community.

Over the past year, our chapter has partnered with hospitals across the San Antonio area to provide HWE education and support teams as they work toward nursing excellence. Plans are underway to expand these efforts by adding additional clinical partners in the year ahead.

This work is driven by chapter leaders and volunteers committed to advancing AACN’s mission at the bedside. One of those leaders, chapter officer Annierose Abogadie, has led recent educational sessions.

Annierose recently presented “Establishing & Sustaining Healthy Work Environments: A Journey to Excellence” and introduced the AACN Beacon Award for Excellence to the Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMU) at University Health, with 24 pediatric team members participating both in person and virtually.

The session encouraged discussion of key HWE principles: skilled communication, true collaboration, effective decision-making, appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership, as well as their application in daily practice.

She will continue this work with upcoming sessions in the PICU on August 27, followed by sessions in the Pediatric Acute Care Unit, as part of ongoing chapter outreach and education.

This year’s theme in action:
Every Voice. Every Story. Every Table.
By bringing HWE education directly to nursing teams across hospitals, we create opportunities for nurses to share experiences, strengthen their voices, learn from one another, and improve care environments for both staff and patients.

We are proud of the San Antonio AACN Chapter leadership team and members for building partnerships across institutions and for supporting environments where nurses and excellence can thrive.

🌟 Planning Today. Leading Tomorrow. Building the Future. 🌟

The San Antonio Chapter AACN Board recently came together for our Annual Leadership Transition and Strategic Planning Meeting—a day filled with vision, collaboration, and excitement as we welcomed new leaders, celebrated our accomplishments, and mapped out an incredible year ahead.

Inspired by AACN President Tonka Williams’ powerful theme, “Every Voice. Every Story. Every Table.”, we challenged ourselves to think bigger, lead boldly, and create meaningful opportunities for every member to learn, grow, and make an impact.

Strategic planning is about so much more than setting goals. It’s about ensuring every voice is heard, every story is valued, and every member has a seat at the table. Together, we’re cultivating future leaders, strengthening partnerships, expanding educational opportunities, and building an even stronger critical care nursing community.

The energy is high, the vision is clear, and we can’t wait to bring it all to life through innovative educational programming, leadership development, community engagement, and meaningful connections that empower our members.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Board of Directors for your passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to advancing excellence in critical care nursing. The best is yet to come!

💙 Every Voice. Every Story. Every Table. Together, we’re creating a chapter where everyone belongs, every perspective matters, and every leader has the opportunity to thrive.

🌟 Celebrating Nursing Excellence 🌟

The San Antonio Chapter of AACN proudly recognizes our very own Marie Peterkin Mayfield, who was selected as a 2026 South Texas Nurse Imagemaker.

The South Texas Nurse Imagemaker Celebration honors registered nurses who exemplify a positive professional image of nursing through excellence in practice, compassionate care, leadership, lifelong learning, and meaningful contributions to healthcare and the community.

Marie’s dedication to nursing extends beyond the bedside through her leadership in nursing operations, mentorship of nurses, advancement of certification, and years of service to AACN. Her contributions have helped strengthen professional development opportunities, recognize certified nurses, and support excellence in acute and critical care nursing across South Texas.

Congratulations, Marie, and thank you for representing the mission and values of AACN through your continued commitment to patients, nurses, and the nursing profession. 💙

Honored to represent the San Antonio Chapter at NTI 2026 in San Diego! ☀️

Yesterday, our chapter leaders attended the Chapter Leadership Development Workshop (CLDW), focusing on leadership growth, chapter governance and strengthening the future of critical care nursing through collaboration and service.

We are especially proud to celebrate receiving the Circle of Excellence Award for Excellence in Chapter Community Education and Public Service, a reflection of the dedication, passion and impact of our incredible chapter members and volunteers. 🧡
