Margie carefully plans every purchase. Like so many seniors living on a fixed income, she has to make every dollar stretch. She shops not only for herself, but also helps care for her sister and another elderly neighbor.
“Everything in the store is getting so expensive now,” Margie shared. “You go in for just a few things, and it ends up being over $100.”
At a recent food distribution, Margie was relieved to find strawberries among the fresh produce being offered.
“I was going to buy strawberries today, but then they said they were giving them here. That helps because I can save that money for my bills and other expenses.”
For Margie, food from the SA Food Bank means more than a meal. It means one less expense and the ability to stretch her budget a little further. And when she has extra food, she shares it with another neighbor in need.
“If I didn’t have this support from the Food Bank,” she said, “I don’t know what I would do.”
