Please keep the family and friends of Steve in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve his recent passing.
Steve was with us at ABODE for a little over a month, and in that time, he shared with us the quiet beauty of his life, his gratitude, and his gentle spirit. He was an incredibly generous and thankful man, someone who noticed the care around him and made sure people knew how much it meant.
Steve loved nature shows, hunting, and fishing. During his time at ABODE, some of his most peaceful moments were spent outside on his patio with a hot cup of coffee, a pastry, and a cigarette. There was something deeply grounding about the way he enjoyed those simple rituals, as if he knew the sacredness of an ordinary morning.
He often spoke about growing up on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin, remembering the hard work of farm life and what it meant to live by the seasons, the weather, and the demands of the land. Later, he made his way to Texas, where he worked in construction and built a life here.
Steve had a kind and gentle soul. He carried gratitude with him, always thankful for the people caring for him during his time at ABODE. That gratitude was lovingly reflected by his wife, Wendy, who left a final message for everyone who helped care for Steve:
“Your thoughtfulness certainly made a difference in mine. Thanks again.”
May Steve be remembered in the stillness of a morning patio, in the warmth of coffee, in the changing seasons, in stories of hard work and tenderness, and in every act of care that reminds us how deeply love can remain.
This tribute was lovingly written by ABODE Resident Doula Jerry Romero, Jr., PhD.
