Let's finish strong! Estrellita, our Vice Chair, is proud to help us close out our National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration! "Growing up with Tejano and Puerto Rican roots taught me that culture is something you live through the people around you. My family taught me that strength comes from knowing where you come from and having family to stand beside you. Knowing who, what, and where I come from has shaped how I understand family, how I show up for my community, and how I use my voice.
I love that my Hispanic heritage is anything but simple. Being both Tejana and Puerto Rican has shown me that two distinct histories can belong fully to one person. I see that richness in the women who raised me: their strength and softness, their poise and passion, and the different ways they care for family and community. They taught me that I can be outspoken and caring at the same time. I’m proud to carry their example with me, and I hope girls and young women can see that they can lead with both confidence and compassion.
Hispanic heritage month is a time for me to honor both sides of my family’s story. It reminds me to ask questions, share stories, and keep those connections alive. It also matters to me that girls see their own cultures and family histories as sources of pride and strength to draw on for years to come."
