This year, while in Kerrville for The Business of Rebuilding, our team also took time to reconnect to the mission that drives our work every day.

We intentionally chose to gather in Kerrville not only to strengthen our team, but also to support local businesses and contribute to the community’s ongoing economic recovery.

At LiftFund, we believe recovery is about more than rebuilding infrastructure — it’s about investing in people, relationships, and the small businesses that help communities thrive.

Waltonia has been part of its community for over 100 years. 🏡

What started as a small fishing camp in 1921 has grown into a family-run business spanning four generations, welcoming guests, and creating lasting memories along the way.

After facing significant storm damage, Waltonia lost multiple cabins and key parts of its property bringing operations to a pause.With support from LiftFund, they’re beginning the journey to rebuild, restoring cabins, replacing what was lost, and working toward reopening.

Last week in Kerrville, LiftFund launched the Small Business Disaster & Resilience Fund, a national initiative focused on helping communities recover faster by supporting small businesses through every phase of disaster recovery. Small business recovery IS community recovery.

During The Business of Rebuilding, leaders from business, government, banking, philanthropy, and community organizations, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and Texas State Representative Wes Virdell for Texas came together to discuss a growing national challenge: recovery systems are often too slow for the realities small businesses face.

Disaster recovery is not linear. Businesses need support from immediate stabilization through long-term rebuilding because access to capital, speed, and coordination can determine whether a business survives.

This initiative is about building systems before they’re needed so communities can preserve jobs, stabilize local economies, and recover stronger.

Yesterday, we celebrated more than a ribbon cutting.

We celebrated ownership, opportunity, and the future of small business growth.

Sandra Lopez, owner of City-Wide General Contractor's, Inc., officially became the owner of her commercial property through LiftFund’s GLUEE (Growing, Leveraging, Uplifting, and Educating Entrepreneurs) Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in Houston designed to help entrepreneurs access commercial real estate ownership opportunities.

For years, Sandra invested in rent while building her business through persistence, sacrifice, and determination. Now, she is investing in equity, stability, and a lasting future for her company and family.

Commercial real estate ownership can help entrepreneurs build wealth, strengthen communities, and create long-term economic impact that extends far beyond a single business.

We are grateful to Wells Fargo for the $2.5 million grant, which helps us advance our mission.

Houston is the starting point, but we believe programs like GLUEE can serve as a model for communities nationwide.
