November is the season of thanks! With your Little, create a list of all the things you are each thankful for- from people in your life, to experiences, to eating your favorite foods. This is a great practice in mindful thinking and sharing gratitude with those around you!

We welcome our new Program Facilitator, Gustavo, to the Texas Hill Country team! Gustavo hails from a small town on the Gulf Coast called Odem-Edroy and graduated from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi in 2000 with a BA in Sociology. Gustavo spent 20 years with Communities in School of San Antonio working as a Pre-College Advisor, Leadership Coordinator, and as part of the Training/Education team. We are thrilled to have his wealth of knowledge and background in youth services joining our mission.

Gustavo's goal is to bring quality mentoring opportunities to the families that need them and to impact as many lives as possible by helping others achieve personal success.

With career highlights such as hosting and leading the CIS-SA-XY-Zone camp at the H.E. Butt Foundation for 15 years in his role as a Program Coordinator and participating in a round table session with the U.S. Department of Education, he is excited for this next chapter!

His hobbies include traveling, outdoor activities, and being a "foodie" who loves to grill!

Please join us in the comments on welcoming Gustavo to the BBBS family!

Reason #53 to be a mentor with BBBS!

Young people are sponges- they soak up everything they see, hear, and experience in their day-to-day lives. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to help ensure that what they are picking up is positive and empowering. By teaching youth to be discerning, to critically think, to have high self esteem and healthy boundaries, you are providing them with the tools to navigate life in a way that helps them find success and growth.

DIY a Halloween costume using things from around the house and your creative skills! Look at uses for cardboard, paper mache, clothing you already own, paint, markers, and other art supplies to put together an epic outfit for a night of trick-or-treating! This activity engages critical thinking skills, hands-on building, and provides an artistic outlet. Share pics of your costume with BBBS for a chance to be featured on social media!

✨ Grateful for a Great Event at the City of Kerrville! ✨

A big thank you to the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a fantastic event! It was wonderful to catch up with old friends, reconnect with familiar faces, and meet so many new partners and community leaders.

It was also such a treat to mix it up in the newly renovated Cailloux Theater 🎭 — what an incredible space to bring people together!

Events like this remind me how special it is to be part of a community that values connection, collaboration, and growth.

Parents are essential partners in the effort to support the healthy development of young people through the power of mentorship.

Our Parent Orientation features an overview of what you need to know as a parent/guardian in the program. This is an important step in the training process to ensure that expectations are met to prioritize safety and quality throughout the duration of each child's experience in our mentoring program.

Big Sister Nereida shared that "I am so proud of Aubrey for working hard to become a better person in and out of school. We have great conversations when we are together and I can tell she is absorbing the advice I offer."

When asked what she has learned from her mentor, Little Sister Aubrey said, "My Big Sister has shown me how to manage tough situations at school. I am no longer involved in the drama and I started playing volleyball for the junior high."
