When the Kerr County floods struck last July, the Junior League of San Antonio quickly mobilized. In just one week, 39 of our volunteers dedicated 133 hours to collect and distribute 22 pallets, over 17,400 lbs! of essential emergency aid to families in crisis.

But true recovery doesn't end when the water recedes. This year, JLSA is proud to partner with the Arcadia Recovery Collaboration (ARC) to help restore homes and support families on their long road to rebuilding. See our members on the ground today, continuing our commitment to this community! 💙

How a mother’s vision and bright yellow paint created a San Antonio legacy! ☀️💛

In 1946, Dela White approached the Junior League of San Antonio with a vision. Seeing a vital void in San Antonio after her daughter, Tuleta, was born hearing impaired, Dela knew our community needed a dedicated school for deaf children.

JLSA got right to work alongside local partners:
🏡 The City gifted a cottage on the Hannah Landa Memorial Library grounds.
🎨 Local merchants donated supplies—including bright yellow paint that inspired the iconic name “Sunshine Cottage.”
🛠️ JLSA members and parents rolled up their sleeves to paper, paint, and build!

On June 16, 1947, Sunshine Cottage officially opened its doors with 6 pupils, 1 teacher, and 10 dedicated volunteers.

For decades, JLSA continued to empower Sunshine Cottage with grants and volunteer hours—including a major expansion in 1958. Today, school continues to transform lives, teaching children with hearing loss to speak, listen, and thrive in classroom settings! 💛✨
