The Alamo Mission Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas was honored to host the dedication of the Old Spanish Trail DRT Historic Site of the Republic of Texas Historical Marker and the rededication of the restored Old Spanish Trail Bench on May 6, 2026.

Originally commissioned and dedicated by the chapter in 1936 during the Texas Centennial, the bench commemorates the Old Spanish Trail, long associated with El Camino Real de los Tejas, one of the earliest and most significant historic routes through Texas. Along this roadway traveled generations of explorers, settlers, commerce, traditions, cultures, and stories that helped shape San Antonio and the history of Texas.

After the original bench was destroyed in a vehicle accident, the Alamo Mission Chapter undertook its careful reconstruction and relocation to the Old Spanish Walking Trails, where it can be better protected and appreciated. Stones from the original structure were incorporated into the restored memorial, reflecting both a respect for its history and a commitment to ensuring its story continues.

The ceremony marked not only the preservation of a historic landmark, but also the continuation of more than 120 years of stewardship and public history carried forward by the Alamo Mission Chapter. As reflected in the words shared during the ceremony, the bench remains “a place of remembrance,” where history lives on through care, remembrance, and community.

Special thanks to the members of the Old Spanish Trail Bench and Historical Marker Committee, our community partners, guest speakers, and all those whose dedication and support helped make this restoration and commemoration possible.

Today, April 20, 2026, marks 120 years since the founding of the Alamo Mission Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

For more than a century, generations of women have worked to preserve the Alamo, protect Texas history, and ensure these stories are carried forward. From restoring historic structures and safeguarding artifacts to supporting education and scholarships, their impact can be seen across San Antonio and throughout Texas today.

Along the way, these efforts have also brought women together in shared purpose—through meaningful work, lasting friendships, and a genuine enjoyment of preserving the history they care deeply about.

While we are proud of all that has been accomplished over the past 120 years, this work is far from finished.

With the launch of the Webb Memorial Grant this year, and continued investment in education and preservation, we remain committed to carrying this mission forward for generations to come.

We invite you to follow along, support our efforts, and learn more at www.alamomissionchapter.org.

120 years strong—and continuing the work.

Today we gathered for the 2026 Republic of Texas Museum History Symposium, Explore the Republic of Texas.

Thank you to the DRT Museum Committee for hosting such a wonderful event, and to our speakers, James E. Brasher and Amanda Danning, for bringing Texas history to life.

It was such a joy to spend the day together, enjoying lunch, exploring the museum, and browsing the silent auction. A special thank you to Carla Miller for the wonderful tour of the building. The presentations were engaging and thought-provoking, making the day truly special.

We invite everyone to come visit the Republic of Texas Museum in Austin, Texas and be sure to watch for an exciting new exhibit opening soon!

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas - Alamo Mission Chapter, in partnership with The Alamo, commemorated Texas Independence Day and the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836, marking the 190th anniversary of this historic event. The program featured students from Bradley Middle School, a solemn reading of the names of the signers, and remarks from distinguished speakers. Hundreds of guests gathered to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who secured Texas’ Independence. We thank all who joined us in honoring this important moment in Texas history and helping ensure these stories continue to be remembered by future generations.

It’s here!

Our 2026 “Pilgrimage to the Alamo” Fiesta Medal is ready for Fiesta season!

This year’s medal commemorates more than 100 years of the Pilgrimage to the Alamo, a cherished tradition remembering the bravery and sacrifice of the heroes of Texas Independence. Each year, we gather in reverence to honor those who gave so much for our freedom.

Proceeds from medal sales support educational initiatives including student contests, scholarships, and the preservation of historic artifacts that keep Texas history alive.

We’re excited to share that Di-Anna Arias has been selected as a panelist for Dream Big 2026: Women Shaping San Antonio by San Antonio Magazine.

Di-Anna has given so much to our city through her leadership, service, and heart for the community. While many know her as President of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas - Alamo Mission Chapter, her impact reaches well beyond that role and touches many areas of San Antonio life.

We’re grateful for all she does and are thrilled to see her recognized in this way.

Congratulations, Di-Anna — this honor is so well deserved!

Join us March 19 at the San Antonio Botanical Garden for our women's panel discussion, happy hour and networking event.
