Chai & Samosa: Starting 21st April 2013, a five week program meeting bi monthly
Mission:
To foster dialogue by engaging San Antonio’s South Asian youth community around South Asian/South Asian American issues. Goals:
• Provide validating academic, social and cultural resources that support holistic development of S
an Antonio’s South Asian youth.
• Engage with issues around identity, immigration, class, gender roles, education, etc.
• Contribute to the self-awareness around Asian American history in the United States
Targeted Participants:
10-15 San Antonio high school and upper and middle school students who are of South Asian origin. Program Info:
A five-weeks program, Chai & Samosa, will engage with 10-15 high school students who are of South Asian origin. Each week will constitute a module that will address specific issue(s) that affect and impact South Asians in San Antonio as well as across the nation. Program delivery will be in person and participants will learn through visual, literary and experiential techniques. Participants will have opportunities to interact with guest speakers who are experts in the field that may be invited to share testimonies on specific topics. Time Commitment:
The time commitment for each participant will be for two hours per session for each module for 5 weeks, dates: 21st April, 5th May, 12th May, 19th May, 9th Jun. Participation Fee:
Participation fee is $50 and includes all materials and supplies. Additionally, students will enjoy desi Chai & Samosa.
