Global SAK Donation Project

I cannot think of a better way to have ended Sexual Assault Awareness Month than by attending the screening of An Army of Women last night. This was a powerful documentary highlighting the strength of this amazing group of women while also shining a light on how far we have to go as a society to prevent violence against women and hold those accountable who commit these horrible crimes. Please reach out to the team involved if you are interested in having your own screening. I cannot recommend it enough ❤️

They say when one door closes another opens. My SANE program at Methodist is closing but you can bet I was working up until the last day to get much needed evidence collection supplies to Africa to help areas in need of quality evidence collection and care for survivors of GBV. We coordinated a donation from Kerrville, Texas to the DRC and Panzi Foundation. And I was able to send one final shipment from Methodist to other projects throughout Africa. We have a lot of work left to do so this is not the end of the story, just the end of this chapter. Stay tuned…

It’s been a while but I am so excited to announce that we have sent another shipment of donated supplies to Africa in coordination with our partner DNA for Africa. As always, I send them with love and hope for the help they will bring.

It was the honor of my career to receive The DAISY Award at work this week. I was nominated by a patient that I cared for and by an advocate that I work closely with. I don’t do this work for awards but it sure made a girl feel special! The best part was knowing I made a difference in my patients’ life and have the trust and respect of my teammates.

Oh, the beautiful sculpture that I received is from Africa. A continent that has become very near and dear to my heart. ❤️✌🏼🩺👩🏻‍⚕️

The evidence collection supplies we sent to Zambia have now been assembled into kits and will be used to assist survivors of sexual violence. Access to quality exams and evidence collection is important for a survivor to feel seen, believed and hopefully, to achieve justice in a court of law. All of which is imperative to their healing. Thank you to DNA for Africa and Innocent Makasa for making this all possible ❤️
