It is with profound sadness that the Congressional Medal of Honor Society shares the passing of Medal of Honor Recipient Colonel Bruce P. Crandall, U.S. Army (Ret.), who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam. He passed away peacefully at his home on May 31, 2026, at the age of 93.

A legendary Army aviator, Colonel Crandall was awarded the Medal of Honor for repeatedly flying his UH-1 Huey helicopter into intense enemy fire on November 14, 1965, to deliver critical ammunition and evacuate wounded Soldiers. Completing 22 flights through relentless enemy fire, his actions saved countless lives and became one of the most celebrated acts of courage in Army aviation history.

With Colonel Crandall's passing, there are now 63 living Medal of Honor Recipients.

Tomorrow, June 4, 2026, at 3:30 PM, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Ranking Member Mark Takano (CA-39) will hold a bipartisan press conference with his Major Richard Star Act discharge petition cosponsor, Congressman Raul Ruiz (CA-25). This legislation will end the “wounded warrior tax,” or the offset that keeps medically retired veterans from receiving their full Department of Defense retirement pay and their full Department of Veterans Affairs disability pay. The House is currently collecting signatures on the discharge petition to force a vote on the House floor. All Members who support the bill are welcome to attend.

Senior Vice Commander Christopher Pierce delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of Memorial Day, acknowledging the sacrifices made by our veterans, and highlighting the importance of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice at Valley Hi FBC. We extend our gratitude for the invitation to participate in your Memorial Day Sunday Service; it was an honor.

Canteen will be open at 11am and will close promptly at 4pm to allow our bar tenders to time to go home safely.
