Sometimes the greatest gift you can give a child is your time.

For children in foster care, meaningful connections can have a lasting impact. Thanks to the volunteers from the Helotes chapter of Young Men's Service League (YMSL), our children spent the afternoon enjoying ice cream, playing together, and simply getting to be kids.

Moments like these remind children they're cared for, valued, and supported by a community that shows up for them. Thank you, YMSL Helotes, for sharing your time, kindness, and heart with the children we serve. 🍦

Last weekend, our Community Team welcomed fathers and male caregivers for an afternoon of food, fun, and connection. 💙 ⁠

Caregiving can be both rewarding and challenging, and having a strong support system makes all the difference. This barbecue was an opportunity to build community, strengthen relationships, and celebrate the dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and father figures who play such an important role in the lives of the children we serve. ⁠

We hold close in our hearts the fathers who are missing their children, the children who are missing their fathers, and all those carrying the weight of grief and loss. At Respite Care, we hold space for you today and every day.

What happens when young people age out of foster care? More importantly, how can we make sure they don't have to navigate that transition alone?

Yesterday, leaders from across Texas gathered at Respite Care of San Antonio for a learning event hosted by the Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services focused on supporting youth as they transition out of foster care and into adulthood. We're honored to provide a space where important conversations like these can happen. When organizations come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and strengthen services, it helps create brighter futures for the young people and families we all serve.

What does 39 years of impact look like?
It looks like children reaching milestones, families finding support, and caregivers getting the chance to breathe.

This year was filled with milestones, moments of joy, and lives changed.

But our favorite takeaway? Children with disabilities and complex medical needs received the care, support, and opportunities they deserve, and families didn't have to navigate the journey alone.

As we celebrate 39 years of service, we're taking a look back at the impact our community made possible this year. 💙

Meet the faces behind the care.💙

Our Mental Health Team is dedicated to helping children build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and navigate life’s challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Through counseling, emotional support, crisis intervention, and collaboration with families and caregivers, they help children feel seen, heard, and understood.

Every day, they create opportunities for healing, growth, and connection. Whether they’re helping a child process big emotions, supporting a family through a difficult season, or providing tools that encourage resilience and well-being.

This trend gave us a chance to show a little of the personality behind the profession. Because while their work is serious, these amazing humans bring compassion, patience, humor, and heart to everything they do.

We’re grateful for all they do for the children and families we serve, fidgets and all.🤗

We'd definitely put that height to good use! He could paint the ceiling without a ladder, be our official doorway clearance inspector, or finally organize everything on the very top shelf.
