We're thrilled to welcome the Taiko Drum Team from the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures & Education Center, making the trip up from Corpus Christi to help us celebrate 100 years of the Jingu House!

Taiko drumming is rooted in centuries of Japanese tradition. It brings together rhythm, movement, and teamwork in performances you don't just hear, you feel. You won't want to miss it.

🖌️ Meet Mamiko Ishikawa, one of the artists joining us for the Jingu Centennial this Saturday!

Mamiko is a certified Japanese calligraphy instructor in Japan and a member of the Japan-America Society of San Antonio (JASSA). For nearly four years, she called San Antonio home, teaching calligraphy to students at local high schools and a Japanese supplementary school.

At last year's Aki Matsuri Japanese Fall Festival, she performed calligraphy on a large board set to Japanese music, and the crowd loved every brushstroke. ✨

Though she has since returned to Japan, her hope remains the same: to share Japanese culture and history with the people of San Antonio. We're honored to welcome her back to celebrate 100 years of the Jingu House with us. 🏮

This garden almost didn't make it. 💔➡️💚

After years of neglect, the city considered closing it. Then San Antonio rallied. The San Antonio Parks Foundation and the City led a restoration of the ponds and waterfall, and the garden reopened on March 8, 2008. The historic Jingu House was restored next and reopened in 2011.

1926: the Bamboo Room opens its doors. 🍵
Kimi Jingu designed the tea room himself. He lined the walls with split bamboo and framed four of his own watercolor paintings into the ceiling. Visitors came for tea, light lunches, and rice cakes, served by the Jingu family. Today, you can dine in for lunch at the Jingu House.
