Meet David- David started volunteering with Faith Kitchen several years ago as he loves to help people. He found himself wanting to work in the kitchen and began to volunteer by serving water during meals.
David began working at the age of 15 and eventually retired from working in construction. It wasn’t until his close call with overdosing that he found his road to sobriety. He stated, ‘it was through God’s grace that I was brought back to life’. Since then, David has focused on his sobriety and getting this life on track.
David is now 19 years sober and will be celebrating his 20th anniversary of sobriety in October, 2026. He’s really excited about moving into his new apartment later this month and has described the apartment as ‘amazing’! His favorite areas of the complex are the pool and the theater. He just got his fishing license and is looking forward to go fishing often. He said when he’s not fishing, you will find him in the theater relaxing at his new apartment.
Some of his favorite things in addition to fishing is eating tamales- chicken and jalapeno, and bean and cheese with jalapeno- are amongst his favorites. He is also a loyal Spurs fan!
He shared that working with Faith Kitchen has been great. He describes the kitchen as, fantastic’ and that they treat him well and are filled with good people. David said, “when you help someone, God will reward”.
He shared that although he is excited about his apartment, he will miss his ‘water job’. He stated once he’s settled into his apartment, he’s coming back to Faith Kitchen to volunteer.
We thank you, David, for your support and loyalty to Faith Kitchen. Your passion and love to serve others is evident, and we could not do this work without people like you. 🙏
