It’s almost time for the King William Association’s annual Community-Wide Yard Sale, and this year, we’re adding a life-saving mission to the mix!

We’re proud to partner with the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center to host a blood drive at 122 Madison this Saturday, October 17. The need for blood donations never stops, and as we head into the holiday season, every donation can make a meaningful difference for patients and families across South Texas and beyond.

Ready to make an impact? Check the comments to sign up and schedule your donation! As a thank-you for helping save lives, donors will also have the chance to enter a raffle featuring prizes from our friends at The Friendly Spot Ice House, BLUSH Restaurant and Bruno’s Dive.

In 1894, Dr. Julius Lucien Alexander Braunnagel left his house on South Laredo and his wife of fifteen years, Mary Blanche, and moved into this home. He purchased this property in 1893 from the estate of Thomas J. Devine. Ten months after his divorce was finalized, Braunnagel married Margaret C. Hagans.

Since 1935 the property has been the home of the Nat Washer Masonic Lodge. Nat Washer, a prominent San Antonian who was of Jewish descent, liked that the Masons were accepting of people from all faiths. This inclusive spirit later led to the lodge becoming one of the first integrated Masonic Lodges in all of Texas.

In 1894, Dr. Julius Lucien Alexander Braunnagel left his house on South Laredo and his wife of fifteen years, Mary Blanche, and moved into this home. He purchased this property in 1893 from the estate of Thomas J. Devine. Ten months after his divorce was finalized, Braunnagel married Margaret C. Hagans.

The house survived a lightning strike early in its existence which “knocked a hole from the roof to the floor” . On January 10, 1908, the Braunnagels acquired a permit for a kitchen addition, valued at $350. The kitchen addition is a stair step shape at the back of the house.

Braunnagel held the title of city physician from 1883 to 1892 and founded the Santa Rosa Hospital Training School for nurses.

This late-19th-century Victorian vernacular cottage with Queen Anne and Eastlake influences, characterized by a front-facing decorative gable, elaborate gingerbread porch detailing, turned woodwork, tall sash windows, clapboard siding, and a standing-seam metal roof, is a prime example of the detail, openness, and asymmetry of that particular style.

With $2615 provided by her husband, J.E.C. Pedder, Henrietta Pedder bought this delicately detailed Victorian cottage from Axel Meerscheidt in 1891. Patrick H. Swearingen bought it from her in October 1892 and a month later sold it to his sister, Clara, and her husband, Sidney J. Brooks who was also Pat rick’s law partner. While the Brooks lived here, Texas Governor Sayers appointed Mr. Brooks as a judge of the 57th District Court and their children, Clara May and Sydney J. Brooks, Jr.

Join us TONIGHT (and every Monday in October) for our Haunted History Walking Tour in the King William Historic District!

Alongside the neighborhood's significant architecture and history are generations of stories of the unexplained, from ghostly apparitions to strange occurrences. The stories we share are firsthand accounts submitted by residents, business owners and visitors of the King William Neighborhood. This one-of-a-kind walking tour will bring to life actual stories of the unexplained.

Tour Details
- When: Every Monday in October at 7:30 pm
Where: Meet at the gazebo in King William Park, 131 King William Street, San Antonio, TX 78204. Tour ends at the Arsenal Bridge area, and Curious Twins Tours & Events will walk the tour group back to King William Park at the conclusion.
- Price: $25, with a portion of proceeds directly supporting the King William Association.

Every ticket supports the King William Association's mission to promote the health and welfare of the King William neighborhood!

The Tyler House is a Folk Victorian style home with a hipped pyramidal roof, decorative porch with spindle work, and a three-bay window with a diamond-shaped bargeboard.

Thomas and Ella Tyler purchased this property from August S. and Annie Guillot in 1898 and are shown living here in the U.S. Census of 1900. After August Faltin purchased the property in 1903, it was rented to Harry A. McArdle, a well-known Texas artist who painted Battle of San Jacinto. Clara Faltin, who inherited the property from her father, sold the house and lot to Mary R Mason in 1906. Its first permanent residents were J. B. and Avis Sheppard, who bought it in 1910 and moved in. Mr. Sheppard was a merchant specializing in “groceries, feed, camp and yard” supplies at 422 South Flores.
