The Opperman House was built in the Victorian style with some eclectic elements. With ionic capitals on the front porch columns, and a third-floor Palladian window, it draws from a number of different styles that were popular around the turn of the twentieth century.

Josephine Sanger’s brother, Edwin Oppenheimer, and their mother, Amelia Oppenheimer, bought this lot in 1905 and probably built the house when the Sangers built their home nearby. The house first appears in the city directory in 1907, and it was bought by the Opperman family (not confusing in the slightest) in 1918.

The Arsenal Bridge in King William will be receiving a facelift over the next month, with the pedestrian walkways being redecked by the city. The pedestrian walkway on the Arsenal Bridge will be closed from August 24, 2026, through September 30, 2026, while the necessary work is being completed.

Please note that there will be no lane closures, and vehicular traffic will remain open on the bridge. Only the pedestrian walkway will be closed during this time.

The King William Association is excited to announce the next gallery showing at the Molly Schaefer Gallery here at 122 Madison Street. The exhibition, Night Breezes, by San Antonio artist Blanquita Sullivan will run from September 8 - October 29, and there will be a "Meet the Artist" reception on Thursday, September 17 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Blanquita is an interdisciplinary artist and business leader from San Antonio, Texas. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Studio Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and studied painting at The Art Students League and the New York Studio School.

The King William Fair is a treasure trove that features the beautiful work of myriad artists from around Central Texas and beyond. Whether you are looking for the perfect painting for your front hall, quirky gifts for funky friends, or handmade treats for the entire family, you can find it all at the fair.

We hope that you all get to find your own treasure at the fair, which will be held on April 24, 2027. Keep an eye out here for announcements and tickets, and don't forget to tag your favorite artist or artisan to encourage them to apply to be a vendor at the fair!

This stone house with its ornate exterior was the first Groos home to be built in this area, a Texas German Vernacular native limestone house with a stucco exterior. The quatrefoil and trefoil porch detailing above the front entrance is a delightful Victorian touch. The second story on the back wing is of brick uncovered by stucco.

It was erected around 1875 by Gustav Groos, who was associated in business with his brothers Carl and Friedrich. It appears to have been built in two stages, but by 1896, it looked much as it does today.

The King William Fair is often said to be one of the most family friendly events on the Fiesta calendar, and we couldn't agree more. Between Kid's Kingdom, the King William Parade, and a host of vendors and performers that bring joy to fair attendees of all ages, we value our event being accessible and enjoyable for all who join us for the festivities.

Louis Braunschweig came from Switzerland to Galveston, Texas in 1880. He married Clara Tietze, a native Texan, in 1887. They lived in Kyle, Texas where four of their seven children were born, and moved to San Antonio in 1896 and lived on Lavaca Street.

The Braunschweigs bought these two lots from Hardin Wickes Adams, son of Hardin B. Adams, in 1898. The next year they contracted with W. Emil Tietze, Clara’s brother, to build this “two story brick veneer dwelling house”. The design by Carl Von Seuter incorporates Gothic Revival elements. Mr. Braunschweig was in the hardware business in partnership with Louis Briam, Jr. and Julius C. Reich, and for a time with Julius Tips.
