May 14th was a beautiful day at Mission Road as we celebrated the ribbon cutting of Toby’s Garden. 🌿✨Friends, staff, families, and clients gathered together beneath the pavilion surrounded by music, laughter, bubbles floating through the air, paletas, and the warmth of community to honor someone very special, our very own Toby Summers.
Under Toby’s leadership, homes were built, programs expanded, classrooms renovated, and beautiful spaces were created across campus. But what so many people remember most is not just what Toby built, it’s the way he made people feel. Toby greeted everyone with joy and kindness.
One of the sweetest stories shared was how Toby used to come to campus on weekends to care for the flowers around the flagpole garden himself, making sure they would continue to flourish for years to come. And honestly…that’s exactly what he has done for Mission Road. He planted seeds in people, friendships, programs, and community that will continue growing for generations.
As we dedicated Toby’s Garden, we celebrated a beautiful legacy of servant leadership and compassion. 💚
Toby shared: "Working at Mission Road has changed me because I have learned so much from the clients. I have learned contentment,
patience, acceptance, and happiness. They have showed me how
not to be angry about what happened yesterday or worried about
what may happen tomorrow. They have taught me how to refrain
from judging others, and how to love and accept others for who they are. I am a better person because of our clients!"
Thank you, Toby, for helping Mission Road bloom.
