Our own John Burnam recently returned from Istanbul, where he co-led a groundbreaking workshop at the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) Conference. Alongside renowned healthcare leaders Dr. John Brennan, a pioneering GP from Ireland, and Dr. Daljit Hothi, Associate Medical Director at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, John helped lead an innovative session that's reshaping how we approach patient safety. This wasn't just another presentation – it was a masterclass in revolutionizing healthcare.

The workshop focused on something we've always known at the Batz Foundation: that the best healthcare happens when leaders, medical teams, and patients work together.

Through interactive exercises and real-world examples, participants learned how to use human-centered design to create safer healthcare systems, build leadership approaches that put patients at the center of care, develop practical tools for discovering and addressing safety challenges, and transform healthcare settings through collaborative problem-solving.

John was also invited to serve as a judge for ISQua's innovation competition, where healthcare providers pitched groundbreaking ideas for improving patient safety. This recognition speaks volumes about how your support has elevated our foundation's voice in the global conversation about healthcare safety.

Laura Townsend, our founder and CEO, had the honor to speak to a class of Freshman students at the University of Texas at Austin.�She shared her experience with us: “This was my fifth year speaking to the students at the University of Texas in Austin's Class, " The Culture of Patient Safety: Transforming Health Together" led by Dr. Veronica Young and inspired by Mom's story and the work of the Louise H. Batz Patient Safety Foundation. I love speaking each year to this class. I am so proud to be a Longhorn and so proud of these future Longhorn Grads. This year was so awesome because for the first time I knew one of the students in the class! She grew up with my daughter, Ella Townsend, and is a freshman at UT this year. I am proud of the journey she is embarking on and it was really very special that she is in this class. We can lay the groundwork, they will change the world. I want to thank the students for their thoughtful questions and discussion. They have such a desire to make a difference in this world. There is so much hope for the future of healthcare. Thank you Dr. Veronica Young and thank you so much to all of you who have partnered with us over the past 14 years. Thank you for making these dreams a reality, for changing my Mom's tragic story into one of hope and promise! I know my Mom's is beaming with pride and love. Thank you all for everything!!! We need your help! The grandchildren and young family members of Louise H. Batz are working together once again for Operation Holiday Hope in Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas. They hope to fulfill Christmas wish lists and desperately needed supplies for pediatric emergency rooms and hospitals. Last year Operation Holiday Hope delivered over $10,000 in toys to pediatric hospitals in North, Central and South Texas!

With your help we want to collect as many toys and supplies as possible to take to Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, Methodist Children’s Hospital, and the Pediatric units at University Health System in San Antonio, Brooks Army Medical Center San Antonio, and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and Medical City Dallas.
