ICE BREAKERS
A MULTI-MEDIA COLLABORATIVE PERFORMANCE
Conceived and directed by company member Lisa Suarez, ICE BREAKERS offers a variety of responses to the divisive, cruel and unjust practices perpetrated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its partners. ICE BREAKERS will play at Jump-Start Theater, 710 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, Texas 78201 on Friday and Saturday, October 16 and 17, 2026 at 8 p.m. Admission is choose-what-you-pay: $0, $5, $10, $15, or $20. Tickets are available at the door. For more information, call 210-227-JUMP (5867).

The idea for ICE BREAKERS emerged at a recent artistic retreat when company members were asked to create short scenes with themes of borders, immigration, and deportation. ICE BREAKERS has since been developed into a medium that provides artists and audiences with a safe space to react and the freedom to share silenced personal narratives, and even empathy across political lines. The ICE BREAKERS artists hope to move folks past the out-of-context video clips, soundbites, and statistics and to recognize shared feelings of fear, struggle and hope.

The collaborating artists of ICE BREAKERS include Fadela Gacis-Castro, Giomara Bazaldua, Joyous Windrider, Lisa Suarez, Jessica Hawkins and Chuck Squier.

PACHUCOS BAZALDUA

THE POWER OF DANCE • THE STRENGTH OF FAMILY • THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY

Jump-Start Performance Co. presents PACHUCOS BAZALDUA, a multi-media work by company member Giomara Bazaldua, celebrating dance and how it connects us to our history, culture and one another.

PACHUCOS BAZALDUA plays Saturday, September 26 at 7:30pm and Sunday, September 27 at 3:00pm at Jump-Start Theater, 710 Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio, Texas 78201. The doors will open 30 minutes before show time. Admission is choose-what-you-pay: $0, $5, $10, $15, $20 or $25.

Tickets are available at https://dojour.us/e/97952 or find them at www.jump-start.org For more information, call 210-227-JUMP.

PACHUCOS BAZALDUA introduces the audience to the (real) story of a sibling swing dance duo who, at just 8 and 11 years old, energized San Antonio dance floors and teatros during the 1940s with their charisma and talent. The kids’ story is interwoven with that of their family members whose creativity and loving sacrifices allowed future generations to find their joyful expression and resilience on the dance floor, whether at neighborhood gatherings, family nights at the local cantina, bailes or beyond.

Gio SirGio ZombieBazaar co-directs with Jessica Hawkins and is featured in the show alongside Bianca Sapet, Emma Hernandez, Brenda Lozano, Jon Villarreal, Rilee Garcia, Gabriel Aquiles Diaz-Morales and Lucila Bazaldua who shares audio remembrances. Gio provides the choreography and the lighting design is by Jules Vaquera. Costumes, sound and projections are designed by Gio.

Gio says, “I’m excited to share an evening of dance and memories of my family that honors their legacy,
but I’m also driven to inspire future generations to keep the story moving!” More than a family story, PACHUCOS BAZALDUA is an invitation to all to reflect on the people, the places, and the traditions that shape who we are.

Jump-Start Performance Co. is dedicated to the discovery and support of new ideas in the arts and arts education. By encouraging visionary thought and non-traditional approaches, Jump-Start is committed to the creation of art that is a lasting voice of diverse cultures and communities.
