Merced Housing Texas

Merced Housing Texas Our mission is to provide quality, affordable, service-enriched housing for individuals and families Services are provided on-site or through a referral system.

What We Do: Overview

Multi-Family Housing Program
Merced owns or has developed 13 quality, affordable homes for 1,450 families in these Texas cities: San Antonio, Somerset, Conroe, Corpus Christi, Fort Worth, Karnes City and Goliad. Through our multi-family, single-family and Owner-Occupied Emergency Repairs Programs, Merced serves more than 1,949 households. When developments currently in the

pipeline are complete, Merced will serve more than 2,984 households in Bexar, Montgomery, Nueces and Goliad counties in Texas. At Merced, we believe in providing more than simply shelter. In keeping with our mission, we provide services at our multi-family properties that support residents’ efforts to raise healthy families and become self-sufficient, fully participating members of society. Resident Services Program
At each multi-family property, we provide services to help residents achieve self sufficiency. The Resident Services program has four focus areas: youth, education and employment, financial literacy, and health. A Resident Services Coordinator works at each property to bring events, activities and resources to residents. A significant percentage of residents in two of Merced's multi-family properties are military families, and Merced considers the special needs of military families. Single-Family Program
Merced’s Single-Family Program revitalizes inner-city neighborhoods by providing home-ownership opportunities to low-income families. Merced acquires dilapidated homes and completely rehabilitates them or constructs new infill homes and sells them to qualifying low-income families. Serve Our Seniors (SOS)
Minor Repair Program
Through the Serve Our Seniors Minor Repair Program, Merced helps extremely low-income senior and disabled homeowners who cannot afford to keep their homes safe, sanitary or structurally sound. Merced makes health- and safety-related repairs at no cost to the homeowners. The SOS Program enables very low-income senior and disabled persons to stay in the homes they own and love. We also have found that receiving SOS assistance often restores faith and hope to seniors whose existence has become bleak because of their limited means.

🏡 No One Does It Alone

Last Friday, Merced President & Executive Director Kristin joined housing leaders and community partners for the 2026 Housing Legislative Workshop, hosted by the San Antonio Housing Coalition.

Kristin participated in the panel “No One Does It Alone: Partnerships as the Foundation for Housing and Services,” a conversation about the partnerships needed to address San Antonio’s affordable housing and homelessness challenges.

From developing affordable housing through public-private partnerships and nonprofit collaborations to providing the services that help people remain stably housed, meaningful progress requires organizations to work together.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to share ideas, learn from fellow housing leaders, and strengthen the partnerships that help our community move forward.

Because building healthy communities takes all of us.

💙 Thank you, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas!

Merced Housing Texas is grateful to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for a $20,000 grant supporting our Resident Services program and the resources we provide to residents across our affordable housing communities.

We were especially grateful to have the BCBSTX team join us at the Back to School Bash at The Artisan at Willow Springs, where they helped support local families as they prepared their children for a new school year. From backpacks and school supplies to community connections, their support helped make the day a special one for the children who participated.

We are deeply grateful to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for investing in community-driven solutions that address the social factors influencing health and well-being across Texas. Together, we're building healthier, stronger communities.

💜 Thank you to CHRISTUS Fund for investing in healthier communities!

Merced Housing Texas is honored to receive a $25,000 grant from the CHRISTUS Fund to support our Resident Services program.

At Merced, we know that health is shaped by more than medical care. Access to nutritious food, financial stability, community connection, and safe, affordable housing all play a vital role in a person’s well-being. These Social Determinants of Health guide the work of our Resident Services team as they bring free onsite programs and resources directly to residents living in Merced communities.

Through this generous investment, residents will continue to have access to food distributions, nutrition education, wellness programming, financial literacy workshops, benefits assistance, community events, and other supportive services that help individuals and families build healthier, more stable lives.

We are deeply grateful to CHRISTUS Fund for partnering with us to improve health outcomes by addressing needs that begin long before someone steps into a doctor’s office. Together, we’re strengthening communities and creating opportunities for residents to thrive.

Growing Together. Growing Our Impact. 🌱

Affordable housing is changing—and the need is growing. For many families, finding deeply affordable housing or achieving the dream of homeownership has become more difficult than ever.

So, where do we go from here?

In the first reel of our “Growing Together. Growing Our Impact.” series, Kristin shares her vision for Merced over the next five years: becoming known for creative and innovative solutions, meaningful collaboration, and keeping people at the center of our work.

That means expanding the affordable housing opportunities we provide, serving more homeowners through home repair, and building a strong team equipped to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Together, we’re building what’s next. 🏡

🎒📚 Thank you to the Myra Stafford Pryor Charitable Trust!

Merced Housing Texas is honored to receive a $20,000 grant from the Myra Stafford Pryor Charitable Trust to support children and families living in our affordable housing communities.

For many families, the start of a new school year brings difficult financial decisions. When housing costs consume a significant portion of a household’s income, purchasing backpacks, school supplies, clothing, and other essentials can become an added burden. Through this generous grant, Merced’s Resident Services program will help ensure more children begin the school year with the resources they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

The funding will support back-to-school supply drives, clothing assistance, healthy snacks during youth programming, and year-round access to emergency food and hygiene resources for families living in Merced communities.

At Merced, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to start the school year with confidence, and every family deserves the support needed to build a stable future. Thank you, Myra Stafford Pryor Charitable Trust, for investing in the health and well-being of the children and families we serve.

✏️ Did You Know?

More than 700 children live in Merced Housing Texas apartment communities.

Through our Resident Services program, families can access back-to-school supplies, emergency food and hygiene resources, healthy snacks during youth programming, and other supports that help children thrive throughout the school year. When students have the resources and stability they need to succeed, communities grow stronger. For families, having access to affordable, stable housing creates a foundation where children can focus on learning, growing, and being part of their community.

🍎🎒 This post is part of Merced's Back to School series, highlighting the connection between housing stability, family well-being, and student success.

In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month, residents at Stablewood Farms Apartments recently attended a Vaccine Awareness Presentation led by Mycah, Health Program Specialist with the City of San Antonio Metro Health Immunizations Clinic. 💉

The presentation allowed residents to learn more about recommended vaccines, ask questions, and access trusted information to help them make informed decisions about their health and their families' health.

At Merced Housing Texas, our Resident Services program is committed to addressing the social determinants of health by bringing educational resources and wellness opportunities directly into the communities we serve. By connecting residents with local health experts, we're helping create healthier and stronger communities.

A special thank you to Mycah and the City of San Antonio Metro Health Immunizations Clinic for partnering with us to empower residents through education and awareness.
