Our founder has a lot going on in the 2026-2027 school year!
Blythe Zemel is the Founder and Executive Director of Girl with Grit, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth through hands-on education, workforce development, life skills, and emotional well-being. Raised in inner-city Houston and now based in the San Antonio metropolitan area, Blythe’s experiences shaped her passion for helping youth build confidence, grit, independence, and practical skills.
Blythe holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Houston and is completing her Master’s degree in counseling, with plans to pursue her LPC-A in Texas in Fall 2026. She will begin a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies in January 2027, with a focus on developing youth leadership and community engagement.
Blythe is also serving children and adolescents through AmeriCorps and Communities In Schools, where she incorporates project-based, hands-on services with her clinical clients to promote confidence, emotional well-being, and practical skill-building.
Since founding Girl with Grit in 2020, Blythe has helped the organization reach more than 18,000 youth across Texas through workshops, camps, and curriculum focused on tools, trades, safety, life skills, and career exploration. Through partnerships including the Region 20 Education Service Center, she continues to expand access to hands-on learning opportunities for young people.
Her work bridges practical education and mental health, creating opportunities for youth to develop the skills, confidence, and grit needed to succeed.
