Brother Stephen Tolman is finally back home. Part of the wound in his stomach is still open and there is still some leakage, but it is closing little by little every day. We are praying that the wound closes up completely very soon. We are also continuing to pray that he will have full transit and that his small intestine will begin to have better movement and function the way it should. We are very hopeful, and so are the doctors.

Right now, his main focus is recovering his strength. He is finally able to eat only regular food and no longer needs part of his calories and nutrition through a vein like before. He is on a very specific diet and has to eat small portions several times throughout the day. Even through all of this, he is ready to gain his strength back and continue the good work that God has called him to do.

He was able to be at church today, and he was extremely happy. Being home is definitely good for him. People at the church were crying when they saw him, and we are all so extremely happy to have him back with us. The doctors say he will need about six months of recovery, but if you know Brother Steven, you know he is already ready to get going again.

We also still have a large hospital bill that needs to be paid, but we are trusting the Lord to provide and meet every need.

Thank you all so much for your prayers, love, support, and encouragement through all of this. We truly appreciate every prayer that has been lifted up for him and our family.

Yesterday we were in San Pablo Village, where we have recently opened a new outreach and started a house church. Right now, we have 15 new adults gathering weekly, along with 22 children.

Yesterday, we held an evangelistic event for adults, with a strong focus on reaching the children. We brought food, organized games, performed dramas, and shared the Gospel with both children and adults. There were clowns, music, and fun competitions where we gave toys to the kids.

At the end, we prayed for everyone and made a public invitation for them to join us every Friday at 7:00 PM.

This is a village where there is not a single Christian church, so we have opened the very first mission there. Our calling is to establish a church in every village where there is none.

Hello friends, this is Stephen Tolman.

On March 28th, I underwent surgery to finally have my intestines reconnected. Unfortunately, one of the connections began to leak slightly, which caused a large abscess in my abdomen. The manipulation of my intestines—now for the seventh time—caused them to become paralyzed. After four weeks, they are only just beginning to move and function again.

There have been many setbacks along the way. Just when it seems like things are improving, something else happens—whether it’s the blockage, the leakage from the fistula, or the large opening in the wound. There have been days when I haven’t felt well, days when I’ve felt very weak, and also days when I’ve felt strengthened and encouraged.

However, the doctors remain very hopeful—and even more so, we hold firmly to our hope in God. The surgeon who performed the operation has told us that this is a slow process, but he believes I will leave the hospital healthy.

All of this has led to significant medical expenses. What was originally expected to be a four-day hospital stay has now extended to six weeks, and the costs continue to rise as my time in the hospital increases.

I also want to tell you all that I am no longer in Monterrey. We moved to San Pedro, hoping things would get better, but while we were there, my condition worsened. We decided to go to Torreón for a check-up, and once we got there, I had to be admitted to the hospital again because I was in very bad condition.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

Dear family and friends,

We want to share an important update on my dad’s condition and thank you all for your continued prayers and support.

After his recent surgery to reconnect his intestines, he has developed some complications. A recent CT scan showed that he currently has an intestinal obstruction, and part of his surgical wound has reopened and remains open.

Because of this, he is currently hospitalized and under close medical observation. The doctors have placed him on complete bowel rest, meaning he will not be able to eat for approximately 10 days, to allow his body time to heal and for the obstruction to resolve.

At this moment, our main concerns are the healing of his open wound and the resolution of the obstruction without the need for another surgery. We are trusting God for healing and wisdom for the doctors during this critical time.

We kindly ask for your prayers for:
• The obstruction to clear on its own
• His wound to close and heal properly
• Protection from infection or further complications
• Strength and peace for him during this difficult time

We deeply appreciate your prayers, love, and support. It means more to us than we can express.

Dear friends,

So much has happened since our last update. On Tuesday evening, my dad was discharged from the hospital. My brother, along with my uncle, brother Philip Tolman and my mom, arrived safely back in San Pedro shortly after midnight.

At home, my dad has been on a strictly liquid diet, high in calories and protein, as he is still unable to tolerate solid food. The drainage from his stomach has continued, and he currently has a fairly large opening due to a small fistula. Yesterday, however, there was a change—the fistula began to pass not only liquid, but also small amounts of solid material. This seems to indicate that it may have increased in size. Along with this, my dad began experiencing more discomfort and abdominal pain, as if gas is not passing normally and is instead being released through the fistula.

Today, my mom and my uncle Felipe took him to see an internal medicine doctor in Torreón. After examining him, she noted that he appears quite weak and recommended further testing. There is a concern that he could have a possible intestinal obstruction, so he has been admitted to the hospital for evaluation and care until further notice.

We know this has been a long and difficult journey, and at times it’s hard to even know what to share. But what we continue to ask for, above all, is your prayers—that my dad would be completely healed, and that God would provide for every need. There are many things we don’t always share, and it has not been an easy process.

Thank you all for your continued love, support, and prayers. May God bless you richly.

Another update on Stephen Tolman

Stephen developed a small opening in the center of the surgical wound—the same area where the fluid we mentioned earlier has been draining from. The amount of fluid has decreased, but the wound still needs to close.

The doctor has approved his transfer to Torreón, which is closer to our home, so he can continue his recovery there with his internist, who has been treating him since the beginning of this whole situation.

His intestinal function is good, and everything else has been stable. However, we are really praying for that wound to close completely, and also for another small spot that appeared—which could potentially become another fistula—not to open.

We ask that you please continue praying. Today, his brother Philip Tolman arrived in Monterrey to see him, and he, Stephen, Marcela, and Timothy will be traveling back to Torreón later today.

Dear friends of Seedtime and Harvest Ministries,

Our brother Stephen Tolman is stable and feeling much better. He still has a leak in one part of his wound, but the amount of fluid has decreased. A CT scan was done, and it showed two things. First, the leak is because one of the connections made in his intestines opened slightly. The good news is that the fluid is draining outward from his body, not internally, which helps prevent sepsis.

The doctor has started him on a liquid diet and believes that, little by little, this small opening may close on its own over time. In the meantime, he will need to continue using a colostomy bag—not because his intestines are outside, but simply to collect the fluid while the leak heals.

The second finding from the CT scan explains the fever, chills, and shaking he had. He developed a hospital-acquired infection—pneumonia—which has affected his right lung. Today, he was taken into surgery for a bronchoaspiration procedure to collect a sample for culture, so the doctors can determine the right antibiotic to treat the pneumonia.

On another note, he has started walking a little more each day, and there is now intestinal activity 🙌🏻

As we mentioned before, the doctor was not able to close his abdominal muscles. His abdomen remains completely open at the muscle level and is only closed with skin. Since this is already his seventh surgery, the skin layer has become thinner and thinner. The doctor no longer recommends attempting another surgery in the future to close the muscles. Instead, he will need to live this way for the rest of his life. He will still be able to have a normal life, but he must avoid bending over, lifting heavy objects, or putting any strain on his abdomen, and he will need to wear an abdominal binder at all times.

Even so, we are grateful to God, because through everything we have seen His glory, His goodness, and His mercy, and He has not left us.

Let us continue praying. We believe that God is still able to heal those muscles without another surgery, and also that this leak will fully close.

Update on Stephen Tolman

My dad came out of surgery well, and he even said he had never felt this good after a surgery before. However, later that night and into the next day, complications started—he had intense pain, fever, nausea, and fluid continuously draining from his wound. His blood pressure dropped, and his heart rate became very fast.

They were able to stabilize him, but the doctors were concerned, and he was in a serious condition. Thankfully, yesterday he felt much better—he was able to walk twice, and they took X-rays that showed there is finally movement in his intestines.

The issue now is that his wound is still draining fluid, and his heart rate remains elevated. Because of this, they are going to do a CT scan to determine if he needs to go back into surgery to locate where the fluid is coming from. It is likely a small leak in his intestines, and if so, they may need to take him back to the operating room to place a drain and close the leak.

Today he is starting on a liquid diet and will have that scan to determine whether another surgery is necessary.

Our specific prayer is that any leak would close on its own, that the fluid draining from his wound would stop completely, and that he would not need a second surgery.

One of our soccer programs in the city of Monterrey praying for Brother Stephen before a game 🙏🏻🙌🏻

03/28/2026

Dear friends,

We’re so thankful to share that Brother Stephen Tolman is out of surgery and doing well. The doctor was very pleased with how everything went.

They were not able to fully close the muscle yet—he is currently closed only at the skin level—but that is something they will address later. The most important thing is that the reconnection of the intestines was successful. Now we are just waiting for movement to confirm proper transit. They did have to remove a small portion of his intestine.

Please continue praying for a fast and smooth recovery. If all goes as expected, he will be discharged on Tuesday, and we will be bringing him to stay with us here in Monterrey, close to the hospital, for follow-up care.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support 🙏
