Hello my name is Alex Silva III and I am a Toastmaster, if you dont know what a Toastmaster is then let me begin by saying A Toastmasters is a non profit organization designed to improve and enhance skills for public speaking… It was established in 1924. I was introduced to Toastmaster at the McConnell Unit in the Tdcj system while incarcerated. Each Toastmasters around the world has a name and number used to identify them. My personal club The Phoenix Gavel club is the largest in the Texas prison system with over 160 members strong. We are all Servant Leaders, leading to see our club succeed. The purpose I serve is to remove some of the negative & biased narratives that reflect poorly on the prison population . It is true prison can be violent with crimes being committed at times. But there is another Group made of men committed to bettering there lives and others. Competent communication is about being able to express yourself in every scenario and walk in life. It teaches creativity, leadership, and expression. Very soon I will be introducing Speech’s written and performed by these men as well as my own with the stipulation being the speech project has already been given credit through the Toastmasters curriculum. I recently finished project #10 to inspire an audience titled: “Taught to Teach “ by Alex Silva III in which I look forward to speaking on this very platform. This opportunity is made entirely possible by the men that I witnessed not only facilitate, and mentor these various programs as they continued to invest in those who are willing to put forth the level of commitment it requires to have true growth and change. These programs, and classes are readily available which has inspired me to ask myself “WHAT”can I do to be more of a Servant Leader. Throughout this journey I will serve as the Toastmaster by introducing participants and setting a stage for receptivity, enthusiasm and acceptance… I want to Thank each and every one of you 🙏 for allowing me to live and share my vision. Lastly I give all glory Jesus Christ who made this possible through my redemption and through prayer gave me the courage and strength to not lose sight of what’s possible, a kinder, peaceful, generous and more loving and accepting future for us all. Words are powerful and can be used to bring people together and that’s what I hope to accomplish with your help and support we will showcase the ability to change and touch lives thank you , Toastmaster AS3
