Juneteenth is tomorrow and a lot of people still look confused when it is mentioned or brought up. Juneteenth is the official recognition of the Emancipation Proclamation enforcement in Texas. Texas was the last state to officially learn of the Emancipation Proclamation and also the last state to officially free the slaves. That is why Juneteenth is called our 2nd Independence Day.

It's important that we acknowledge our shortcomings and where we've gone wrong in dealing with people of different backgrounds. If we don't learn from our mistakes, we are bound to repeat them.
Juneteenth is an often overlooked event in our nation’s history. On June 19, 1865, Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay and across Texas some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
