The San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization that has served Bexar County and its surrounding areas since 1952. The SAHS shelters, medically treats, and rehabilitates thousands of dogs and cats every year. Many of the dogs and cats in our care have been abused, injured, surrendered by their owners, or found as strays. As a no-kill organization, every treatab

le pet in our care stays in our care until they find a home or necessary placement with another no-kill organization. No pet in our care is ever euthanized to create space. Thousands of dogs and cats in San Antonio and its surrounding areas are saved from euthanasia every year due to the mission and practices of the SAHS. Through our adoption, volunteer, foster, spay/neuter, and educational programs, we inform and educate the public on the importance of responsible pet ownership. We serve as one of the largest dog and cat adoption organizations in San Antonio, Texas, helping to decrease the community’s large pet overpopulation problem in a humane manner. As a local nonprofit, we are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). We do not receive funding from the federal government, the HSUS, or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The most effective way to positively change your local community is by donating to your local nonprofit.

Kermit is an 8-month-old Terrier mix who was transferred to us from another local shelter in February. He was adopted but returned in July due to changes in his family's lifestyle.

Kermit is a sweet, affectionate pup looking for a loving forever home where he can continue to grow and thrive.

Come adopt these cuties!! 🥹 Skye (2 years old) and Deacon (3 years old, grey fur) were surrendered to us when their previous owner had a change in their health that left them unable to care for their pets. 💔 So now this duo is looking for their forever homes! They don’t HAVE to stay together, but if you’re looking for two cats who have already lived together and will give you the best of both worlds as a cat parent, you should come spend time with them! Meet a pup who truly lives up to his name, Reign! 🐶🌟

Reign is a 7-month-old Labrador Retriever mix who made his way to our shelter in late July. Before coming to us, Reign suffered fractures to his back leg that required surgery. Unfortunately, his previous family was unable to continue with the medical expenses and ultimately surrendered him to our care.

When Reign was evaluated by our medical team at the Lee Naylor Medical Building, they discovered multiple open wounds at his surgical site. Our team immediately stepped in to provide the critical care he needed, including daily wound cleanings, topical medications, and laser light therapy to help close his wounds correctly. ❤️

After weeks of dedicated medical care, Reign has made incredible progress and is now ready to find his forever family! 👏🐾

Through every challenge, Reign never stopped being the loving, trusting puppy he is. And now, with Reign’s hardest days behind him he’s ready for his next chapter! Come and meet Reign today! 💙
