Estella is a glamorous, internationally known movie star and Mari’s mother. Larger-than-life and accustomed to being the center of attention, she arrives intending to help her daughter—but her presence also forces Mari to confront their complicated mother-daughter relationship.

Marisa Varela is an actress, director, educator and writer. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she studied at The Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. Her Career spans 50 years of experience between Argentina, Puerto Rico and Texas in numerous television shows, soap operas, commercials, plays and a dozen films. Her latest work includes: Real Woman Have Curves, Amadeus, Anna in the Tropics, Burning Patience, The House of Bernarda Alba, Dead Man Cellphone, among other titles, for which she received several ATAC awards through the years.

Meet 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘇, reading for 𝘑𝘶𝘢𝘯 in our staged reading of 🌴 𝕃𝕒𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕤 𝕚𝕟 𝕊𝕡𝕒𝕟𝕚𝕤𝕙 ☀️ by Alexis Scheer!

Juan is a Colombian immigrant. A Miami-Dade police officer and Caro’s boyfriend. He is warm, goofy, easygoing, and genuinely caring.

Nicholas Ramirez is honored and grateful to be working with Miscast again! He has a A.A. from Palo Alto College and a B.A. from the University of the Incarnate Word. He also received an ATAC nomination for his role in UIW’s production of Fade. Nick’s recent credits include Do You Feel Anger? with Miscast Theater (Jordan) and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest with La Bête Productions (Ensemble). He would like to thank his friends and family for their constant love and support. Special shout out to his scene partner in life, Gloria, for all her help on and off stage.

Meet 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀, reading for 𝘑𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘺 in our staged reading of 🌴 𝕃𝕒𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕤 𝕚𝕟 𝕊𝕡𝕒𝕟𝕚𝕤𝕙 ☀️ by Alexis Scheer!

Jenny is Estella’s personal assistant and an aspiring screenwriter. As the only non-Latina member of the group, she experiences the characters and their world somewhat differently.

Kate Edwards is thrilled to be part of Laughs in Spanish! This marks Kate’s fourth performance in San Antonio after moving to the city last November. Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Kate has previously appeared on stage in Into the Woods (Florinda), The Secret Garden (Martha), Matilda (The Acrobat), and Honk! (Queenie). She sends heartfelt thanks to her husband, Noah, and to her family and friends for their constant love and support.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the departure of our Director of Marketing and Communications - 𝙇𝙞𝙡𝙞 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙯.
Lili came to us at a time of need. We were in dire need of a Marketing Director during our production of Bright Ideas in 2024 and she stepped up to the plate.
During her tenure at Miscast, she also served as Assistant Director for Bright Ideas, Assistant Stage Manager for 17 Minutes, Stage Manager for Do You Feel Anger?, and Director for our first ever staged reading of A Delicate Ship and most recently, our full production of Gruesome Playground Injuries.
She helped our Marketing department by creating more engagement, more content and most recently, she helped us reach 1,000 followers on Instagram during our run of Gruesome Playground Injuries.
Now, Lili is ready to move on to bigger and better things. Although it’s sad to see her go, we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors.
