We hope that you’ve been enjoying the start of summer! As we head into the weekend, we want to spotlight another phenomenal winner from our 2025 Youth Contest. The theme was: “Be empowered. Every vote defends democracy.” This contest was open to high school and college students from across Bexar County.

We were blown away by the thoughtful, creative visual art and written work that students submitted. Today, we’re sharing the penultimate post in this series — a poem by Grant Kels, a student at the University of Pennsylvania. His piece was the Second Place Winner in the College Written Word division. Congratulations, Grant!
