San Antonio’s 2027 budget is projected to be $4.4 Billion. That’s after balancing a two-year deficit of $158 Million. But how did the city make it happen?

- A property tax increase,
- New and increased fees,
- Reducing spending.

Here’s a high-level overview and quick breakdown for 2027:

1. Property Taxes are increasing about 2 cents per $100 valuation.

That’s about $36 per year for homes valued at $230,000. It’s complex but the city is using an unused allocation from previous years that’s allowed by the state. It’s the first tax rate increase in 33 years.

2. Spending reductions: There’s about $40 million in cuts.

That includes eliminating 101 city jobs (about half are vacant; staff in filled positions will be moved to other roles or offered an exit), There’s also a bunch of consolidations like closing some part-time senior nutrition centers that saw only single digit daily usage and moving them to other larger centers.

3. Fee increases:

The city is adding $15 million worth of fees to existing services.

Here’s a few:

- Maximum Alamodome Parking will go from $60 to $75

- A new $20 non-resident annual fee will be added to the San Antonio Library for people who don’t live in the city limits

- Fiesta event organizers will now need to share half of the SAPD costs for their events.

- Long-Term Airport Parking will go from $16 per day to $20 per day

- Event Parking: City Tower, Market Square, and other lots will go from a $15 cap to a $30 cap.

- Short-Term Rental Operator Permits (AirBnB etc) - Some types of permits will go from $450 to $1,000.

- Uber / Lyft fees at the Airport: Ride fees at the airport will go from $2.50 to $5 per ride.

- Credit Card Surcharge Fee: A 3% fee will be added to credit card purchases at city departments.

- Residential trash pickup: Cart costs per month will increase 75 cents.

This is not an exhaustive list but a few of the increases.

The council will vote on the budget in September.

SAD NEWS FOR OUR NEIGHBORS

NEWSRELEASE: Letter from the Braun Station West CIA President

Dear Neighbors,

I am sad to report that the Nuestra Tierra Project received the 9% tax incentive from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA). The apartment project has received approval and necessary funding. Construction is slated to start in April 2027, and should be completed by the end of October 2028.

I would like to express my great appreciation to Brittany and Evan Garza, David and Mary Martinez, James Stopper, Alice Worthington, Laura Butterfield, and Heather Tristan. These folks sacrificed their time, effort, and their own funds to attend meetings, set up the electronic opposition petition, distribute notices, and keep us all informed. Thank you to all who took the time to sign the electronic petition in opposition to the project.

SHORT TEM RENTALS AND THE 4th of JULY

The Fourth of July weekend is one of the busiest times of year for short-term rentals in our neighborhoods, which can mean more late-night noise and crowded streets. Here is what to know if a rental near you gets out of hand.

Every short-term rental inside city limits must have a city permit, and that number has to be posted in the Airbnb or VRBO listing. No permit means it is operating illegally.

To report a problem:
• Unpermitted or problem rental: Call 311 or file online at 311.sanantonio.gov. You can stay anonymous.
• Noise, parties, or parking: Call SAPD's non-emergency line at 210-207-7273 and ask for a case number.
