Wonderful! You identified BEE-BRUSH (Aloysia gratissima), also known as Whitebrush. 🎉

ABOUT BEE-BRUSH:
🐝 Bee's Best Friend - The common name says it all. It's a pollinator paradise!
🌸 Tiny Flowers, Big Impact - While individual flowers are small, they're produced in such profusion that the entire shrub can appear to be covered in white blooms.
👃 Aromatic Foliage - Brush against or crush a leaf, and you'll release a wonderful fragrance. The scent is fresh, slightly lemony, and absolutely delightful!
🏜️ Desert Tough - Once established, it is incredibly drought-tolerant and thrives in poor, rocky, alkaline soils. It's perfectly adapted to our South Texas climate and hot summers.
📏 Compact Growth - Typically grows 3-6 feet tall and wide, forming a rounded, airy shrub that doesn't overwhelm a space. The delicate branching creates a graceful form.
🌼 Long Bloom Season - Bee-brush flowers from spring through fall, providing nectar for pollinators during many months when other food sources may be scarce.
🐝 Bee Conservation Through Native Plants - Bees face serious challenges from habitat loss and pesticide use. By planting native shrubs like Bee-brush, we provide crucial forage throughout the growing season—literally helping bees survive and thrive!

Excellent! You identified RED YUCCA (Hesperaloe parviflora), also known as Red Yucca or Coral Bells! 🎉 This dramatic native is a Texas and Mexican treasure—and its story reveals something important about plant conservation in the modern world!
ABOUT RED YUCCA:
🌺 Not Actually a Yucca! - Despite its common name, Red Yucca belongs to the Agave family (Agavaceae), not the Yucca genus! It was named "yucca" because it shares similar succulent characteristics and rosette form with true yuccas.
🔴 Spectacular Flower Spikes - Tall, elegant spikes of tubular red-orange flowers rise 3-4 feet above the plant, creating dramatic vertical interest and stunning visual impact from spring through fall.
🐦 Hummingbird Magnet - Those tubular flowers are PERFECTLY designed for hummingbird beaks! Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and other species visit these blooms repeatedly throughout the long flowering season.
🏜️ Desert Tough - Red Yucca is incredibly drought-tolerant once established. It thrives in poor, rocky, well-drained soils and actually PREFERS dry conditions. Overwatering is the main threat to these plants!
⚠️ Wild Status: Threatened - Here's something many people don't know: while Red Yucca is EVERYWHERE in cultivation and one of the most popular native plants in Texas nurseries and landscapes, in its wild habitat, it's actually threatened!
Come admire these dramatic red-orange spikes at the entrance of Arboretum San Antonio.

Wonderful! You identified ROCK ROSE (Pavonia lasiopetala), also known as Texas Rock Rose or Rosy Pavonia! 🎉 These gorgeous native shrubs are among our newest plantings welcoming visitors at the Arboretum entrance—part of our exciting journey to restore native habitat throughout the site.

ABOUT ROCK ROSE:
🌸 Nearly Year-Round Blooms - In San Antonio's mild climate, Rock Rose blooms prolifically from spring through fall, and can even flower sporadically in winter! The delicate pink flowers keep coming in flushes all season.
🐝 Pollinator Magnet - Those delicate pink blooms attract native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It's a crucial nectar source for pollinators throughout the growing season.
🌿 Tough & Low-Growing - Rock Rose typically grows only 2-3 feet tall and wide, making it perfect for front-of-garden plantings. It's incredibly tough and resilient!
🏜️ Drought Master - Once established, Rock Rose thrives with minimal water. It's perfectly adapted to our South Texas heat, humidity, alkaline soils, and variable rainfall.
🌳 Edwards Plateau Specialist - While Rock Rose occurs across much of Texas, it's especially important to the Edwards Plateau ecosystem—and we're right at the intersection of four Texas ecoregions here at the Arboretum!

WHY THIS MATTERS—OUR NATIVE PLANTING MISSION:
🌱 Part of Our Growing Movement - Like the Autumn Sage we recently planted, these Rock Rose shrubs represent Arboretum San Antonio's commitment to RESTORING native habitat, not just preserving it!
🏠 Leading by Example - As an arboretum, we have a responsibility to demonstrate ecological best practices. Every native plant we add shows that beautiful landscapes CAN be sustainable, water-wise, and wildlife-friendly.

Come experience these charming Rock Rose blooms welcoming you at the entrance—and imagine the thriving native landscape we're cultivating together! 🌸💚

Perfect! You identified AUTUMN SAGE (Salvia greggii)! 🎉
These gorgeous native perennials are among our FIRST intentional native plantings at Arboretum San Antonio, welcoming visitors at our entrance—and we couldn't be more excited about what they represent!

ABOUT AUTUMN SAGE:
🌺 Nearly Year-Round Blooms - True to its common name, Autumn Sage blooms most prolifically in fall, but in San Antonio's mild climate, it can flower nearly year-round!
🎨 Rainbow of Colors - While red is the classic color, Autumn Sage naturally occurs in pink, coral, white, and purple. Different cultivars offer even more color options. Each one attracts pollinators.
🐝 Pollinator Paradise - It's not just hummingbirds! Native bees, butterflies (especially swallowtails), and sphinx moths also visit Autumn Sage for nectar.
🏜️ Drought Champion - Once established, Autumn Sage is incredibly drought-tolerant and thrives in our hot, dry summers. It's perfectly adapted to South Texas and Hill Country conditions.

WHY THIS MATTERS—NATIVE PLANTING AT THE ARBORETUM:
🌱 Beginning Our Native Plant Journey - These Autumn Sage plantings represent an exciting milestone: we're beginning to intentionally add native plants throughout Arboretum San Antonio! You'll see them welcoming visitors at our entrance.
🌳 Beyond Preservation to Restoration - While we're preserving our heritage trees and existing native vegetation, we're also PLANTING natives to increase biodiversity, support pollinators, and demonstrate sustainable landscaping for our community.
🌿 Leading by Example - As an arboretum, we have a responsibility to model sustainable, ecologically sound landscaping. Every native plant we add demonstrates what San Antonians can do in their own yards!

Come see these beautiful Autumn Sage welcoming you at the entrance—and watch as we continue growing native habitat throughout your Arboretum! 🌺💚
