Dear Alpha Family,
As we approach the end of the year, we seek your kind support and financial contribution towards Alpha Home’s mission. With your support, we believe that those affected by substance use disorder can regain control of their lives and hope can become a tangible reality.
As you know, Alpha Home has provided residential substance use treatment to adult women since 1966. We are excited to report in FY 2024, that we served 384 women in our residential program and 302 men and women in our outpatient program, for a total of 686 clients. Lives were changed and families were lifted due to the treatment that was received. This positive impact extended to the 341 children of the women in our residential program.
During this season of giving, we humbly ask for your financial support to ensure that Alpha Home can continue to help women, men and children in our program. Financial circumstances should never prevent someone from receiving treatment. With your support, we can continue to make a difference and impact our community in a lasting way.

Historically, alcohol use disorder has disproportionately affected men. But targeted advertising and changes in societal norms over the past 50 years have led to an upsurge in alcohol-related diseases and deaths among women. “It’s a very taboo topic,” one expert said.

This year as we, along with thousands of others, turn our attention to the solar eclipse perhaps we can take a few moments to reflect on how the process of the eclipse is similar to the process of addiction and recovery.

Think of yourself as the Sun --- strong, powerful, bright, with your true self and inner beauty shining for all the world to see. Then along comes addiction. The addiction proceeds to overtake your life much like the moon does during an eclipse, slowly but surely covering up the beautiful shining light of your true self.

The darkness creeps up slowly, barely noticeable at first, but surely conquering the light increasingly more until the light all but disappears behind the darkness. Nothing remains but the slightest hint of brightness peeking around the edges.

That brightness is the tiny reminder of what was…. and what is, had it not been blotted out. Eclipsed.

That is addiction. But that is not the end of the story. Just as the darkness crept in gradually, the darkness fades slowly -- barely noticeable at first, but progressing steadily until surely the light conquers the darkness and emerges once again shining brightly. Whole. Complete. That is recovery, and that is beautiful.
